Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Review
Core 2 Quad processors are multi-chip modules consisting of two dies similar to those used in Core 2 Duo, forming a quad-core processor. While this allows twice the performance to a dual-core processors at the same clock frequency in ideal conditions, this is highly workload specific and requires applications to take advantage of the extra cores. Also, high-end Core 2 Duo processors often operate at higher clock frequencies, so the performance for single-thread workloads would be worse on a Core 2 Quad.
Initially, all Core 2 Quad models were versions of Core 2 Duo desktop processors, Kentsfield derived from Conroe and Yorkfield from Wolfdale, but later Penryn-QC was added as a high-end version of the mobile dual-core Penryn.

No it won't. I've got the same GPU, and I can run any game in 1080p. You might have to overclock to prevent lag in games like Metro: Last Light or Crysis 3. I still run them perfectly fine without overclock!

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. Your CPU is a bottleneck to your system. If you upgraded to Q6600 you should be able to run any game for at least 2 more years. Don't forget to get an extra 2GB of RAM ;)

I am also thinking about it, but actually my graphics card is the real bottlenecker. I might buy HD 7850 and overclock my cpu to about 3.5 GHz (30 %)

Noticeably. Multiplayer will strain the CPU and the low resolution makes the GPU work better, so it all adds up for the bottleneck ;s Not a reason to not go for HD7870, but you might want to consider a newer and more capable Quad Core for gaming buddy.

Well only a few games utilize all 4 cores, most games just use 2. Example: Total War series, Quad-core 2.13 ghz got lower performance than Dual-core 2.53 Ghz, because Creative Assembly didn't care about quad-core support.

Most games these days use 4 cores very effectively, you probably picked an old benchmark. If you can get it for less than €80 I'd say it's a good deal if you won't need a new motherboard...

It depends on your motherboard and the processor itself, or if you have a mobo with a good chipset for OC and if the Q6600 has a "G0" stepping, you would have a good chance of making an OC to 3.6Ghz, even 3.8GHz (3.2GHz the insured you would have), but if the Q6600 is B3 stepping, could complicate all ... especially if the mobo not is suitable for the OC, so a goal would be real and close is 3.2Ghz. : D
