Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Review
Core 2 Quad processors are multi-chip modules consisting of two dies similar to those used in Core 2 Duo, forming a quad-core processor. While this allows twice the performance to a dual-core processors at the same clock frequency in ideal conditions, this is highly workload specific and requires applications to take advantage of the extra cores. Also, high-end Core 2 Duo processors often operate at higher clock frequencies, so the performance for single-thread workloads would be worse on a Core 2 Quad.
Initially, all Core 2 Quad models were versions of Core 2 Duo desktop processors, Kentsfield derived from Conroe and Yorkfield from Wolfdale, but later Penryn-QC was added as a high-end version of the mobile dual-core Penryn.

Hard to tell, I need more info, but its cpu problem for sure
pick it up do not touch pins and check if one of them is not bend or if there is no dust dirt there (or in socket)
OR maybe you touched it allready and there is sweat (or wax or whateva it is in english) from your hands preventing good contact, good way to clean it is with isopropyl alcohol, you can use regular vodka as i do (50% and more alcohol) but then let it rest for day, leftover water will vapor away

It seems that either a pin is bend OR I think you bought yourself an ES CPU (most likely to happen). If so then this cannot be fixed. Purchase another CPU!

Short answer - No.
Long answer - Yes, but fortunately the bottleneck is minor and shouldn't affect your gaming experience.
Really long answer - It's true that the CPU is a vital part of any task a computer can perform. Yet, when it comes to tasks performed by the GPU and the CPU together (gaming in particular), all what the CPU does is manage the rate of data flow to the GPU which does the rest of the work. So, your CPU will narrow the data flow a notch, but not significantly enough for you to notice any slow-downs.

If you already have one of these you don't really need to upgrade to the newer 4 core processors cause it is still performing great everywhere: latest video games,video rendering etc. I've got this little 12mb cache beast for 4 years and there's nothing it can't do. Sure an i7 will perform faster, but there's no need to pay 500$ for a new motherboard and a new i7. If you want to upgrade to an i5 from a q9550, it's not really worth the money

@NFSwhiplash

true better to get a i3 or i5 theyre both cheap and you will get better performance with them :)

If you can get it for very cheap then yes otherwise buy an i5 or something similar if your upgrading.
