No, that cpu will not bottleneck a single 1080Ti unless you go for a SLI configuration an I7 6800k or 6850k would be the best choice.

you must have a z170 or z270 motherboard if you do go into bios click Ai tweaker scroll down to cpu click sync all core change the ratio for example 44= 4.4ghz then change cpu voltage to auto and change to 1.35 then your good to go.

i7 4790k is still better in overall you might get some higher fps in some games with 7600k but those game are usuly not so cpu tensive or just req. 4cores but with this 4790k you have much more headroom left id go defenetly with 4790k

I want to upgrade to this cpu with a new board and new ram. I currently own a Scythe Kabuto cpu cooler unit. Will this do its job fine on the i7? I checked the compability and at least from this point it would be fine. Advice appreciated (:

It will keep the i7 cool but it's unlikely you can get ideal overclocking. For overclocking I recommend at least a Noctua NH-D14 for both a cool CPU and quiet rig. i7s generate exponentially more heat the more you overclock them.

You can Overclock you GPU to 10% if your motherboard allows it and then you won`t need an i7 for a 1080.

you will eventually need more ram 16gb and some overclock to get most from gpu.. would go for gtx 1070 since your res is 1080p only also small tip sapphire fury none x is dirt cheap right now that gpu can be on pair with 1070 in some titles and especially its better suited for dx 12
