Core i7-6700K 4-Core 4.0GHz Game Requirement Analysis

Core i7-6700K 4-Core 4.0GHz is a high-end CPU based on the 14nm, Skylake MicroArchitecture.

It offers 4 Physical Cores (8 Logical), initially clocked at 4.0GHz, which may go up to 4.2GHz and 8MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, HyperThreading, Turbo Boost 2.0 and Virtualization are activated and the processor has its multiplier unlocked.

The processor integrates Powerful Graphics called HD i7 6700K, with 24 Execution Units, initially clocked at 350MHz and that go up to 1150MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 91W.

Its performance is exceptionally good and enough for even the most demanding applications.

I want to upgrade to this cpu with a new board and new ram. I currently own a Scythe Kabuto cpu cooler unit. Will this do its job fine on the i7? I checked the compability and at least from this point it would be fine. Advice appreciated (:

It will keep the i7 cool but it's unlikely you can get ideal overclocking. For overclocking I recommend at least a Noctua NH-D14 for both a cool CPU and quiet rig. i7s generate exponentially more heat the more you overclock them.

If I'm upgrading to a 1080 will I need this/something stronger or will my current CPU work?

You can Overclock you GPU to 10% if your motherboard allows it and then you won`t need an i7 for a 1080.

you will eventually need more ram 16gb and some overclock to get most from gpu.. would go for gtx 1070 since your res is 1080p only also small tip sapphire fury none x is dirt cheap right now that gpu can be on pair with 1070 in some titles and especially its better suited for dx 12

You'll really want to overclock it, but even if you don't want to, the stock cooler's still pretty bad. Get something like a Cryorig H7 or CM 212 Evo for under $40.

i7-6700K or i7-5820K are fine. Not so worth if you plan on gaming only but they are on futureproof sockets since LGA1150 has only i7-4790K on the highest end which isn't really far from your current CPU. If you can, get it but it's not necessary.

If you really want a Deep Cool cooler, you can get the Captain 240 or Maelstorm 240T but Captain 240 will be slightly better.

Going from an i7-4790k to this wouldn't be a "significant" upgrade, you'd experience and frame rate increase but only by 5 frames maximum.

Yeah I just recommended it because you can fit in a nice SSD which would give you more performance boost unless you'll use the PC for rendering. I mean in games there won't be noticeable difference between these two processors in fps but loading times would be much better with an SSD compared to a HDD and it's kind of a must in new high end builds, everyone recommends it.
