If you are not going to use the built in gpu , athlon is the way for you . I had a4-6300 and i switched to athlon x4 860k and i see dramaticly changes in fps while gaming .

is it worth upgrading my CPU? or should I get dedicated graphics card for the same price? Which option would be better for low-end gaming rig?

You should get a GPU, this APU costs around $150, for that prize you can get a GTX 750 which would deliver better performance than the integrated GPU. Also since your MOBO is FM2, you would need a new one because A10-7870K is on FM2+ and it's not supported by FM2 socket boards, which means you will need to spend more.

My A8-3870k just died after years of loyal service, and I'm looking at an upgrade. I have a discreet GPU, but I've been running a second monitor off my iGPU for the past while, so I need the onboard graphics (which rules out FX chips). My budget for CPU and MB is around €200. Would this be a good option to go for, or could anyone recommend a competitively-priced alternative?

there is no big performance advantage over your corrent chip so jeah id say not worth at all…i would look into i5 used around your 200eur budged if you really need that igpu but dont see any reason why you dont have both your monitors connected into your gpu is prfect capable runing two monitors even on higher res

I'm using two VGA monitors: one connected to the GPU with a DVI adapter, and the other going straight into the motherboard. I've only one DVI port on my GPU, and converting HDMI to VGA is a nightmare!

Just had a look at mini Display Port to VGA adapters, and they're more readily available than I thought. So if I can run both monitors easily off my GPU, then the other processor I was looking at is possibly the FX8320. What do you reckon?

So after a while it started to crash because of the iGPU. Seems to be it doesn't like to run above 1100MHz (stock is 867MHz).
I need to test on lower OC profiles, like 4,2.

Its cool chip but when it comes to cpu performance in games this is weaker than i3.

But still thinking about a rig with it. AMD should push their APU development for future.

I like it, but it isn't great for a mITX monster. If they could make an A10 with the performance between the FX 6300 and FX 8350, I would deffinately buy it. This cpu isn't that great for long term as it is already weak and the best fm2+ available compared to good cpus, so within a few years you should get a new cpu + mobo. Intel got great 1155 or 1150 mobos, but the cpu is expensive.
