Quick note: Gaming temps on my i7-840QM range from 76c to 81c max using CPUID Hardware Monitor; Core Temp; and SpeedFan. :) HWINFO 064 is also sometimes used!

Hi, I'll reply in this post to your previous questions;
Pip is in duty of hardware ranking on GD so if you have any doubts you can contact him, he's quite busy, so posting in this blog is more suitable than writing on his profile;
it can happen hardware gets misranked on GD due to constant update of new hardware additions and relative comparison pushing older hardware down, laptop components are also quite tricky for ranking because their performance is often affected by cooling which also affects dynamic boosting across newer series,
hope you understand and are encouraged enough to provide true info which can be used to refine the performance ranking of your cpu :)

When using the "Can I Run Tool", do you get the message saying you can't play a certain game because of your CPU? You don't right? Well that means your processor is correctly ranked.

Hi, Tzzsmk and Pip! You mean Game nalysis, right? :) Just wanted to let you both know if you don't that the i7-840QM is actually an i7-860 DT. Mine idles @ 2.GHz since I've had it according to Intel Processor Identity Utility. Not 1.86. So there are differences I can show you Intel's test, but where to post? Thanks, though, you both get THUMBS-UP and points! :)

no idea what you mean, name is i7-840QM (following the Intel's naming scheme), base clock speed is 1.86GHz and max. turbo clock speed is 3.2GHz, so basically you can see cpu clock in range of these :)

Hey, guys, you can't be serious about rating/leaving this i7-840QM at a seven when with all of the info and tests, basic information I've left at my page, it's obviously an 8 or better. . . .

As better hardware is released over the years, even something that was good is demoted in the rating system, that's reasonable, and to be expected. Very soon for example, Radeon HD 7870 / R9 270(X) might go to 9 instead of 10.

If that's the case, according to Notebookcheck, your CPU is like 30 below mine and should be maybe a six at best, because it's definitely not 10% or even 0% better. :) What NBC says.

Maybe in some applications this one is better indeed, but there is a gap of 4 generations and shift from 45 to 22 nm in these cpus, but most importantly , mine reaches a turbo speed of about 2,7 ghz for two cores or 3 ghz in single core mode, which should help significantly. But most importantly keep in mind GD and all the other sites you a different way to compare hardware, and none is perfect.

Actually if you read Pip's blog the increase in rank happened not just for this processor, but almost for all, according to a new system he is implementing right now. Yeah, I think we 've covered a lot about this topic, and thank you for adding your cpu temperatures too.

7 seems way low; but my GDDR3 HD5650 is rated way-way low, too, at a jokingly measly 4--Ha-Ha! And it seriously spanks 6's! As this i7-840qm does; this cpu can also be overclocked with ThrottleStop when needed--Runs at 3.4 across all cores! Just leave all of my games in high/ultra presets and let my HD 5650 and i7-840qm seriously roll--stomp--and I do enjoy all of my games! Yeah! Thanks, i7-840qm!

Generalissimo, you really need to read this first post of mine above, and then check my scores against any of yours before stating incorrect mulhala;mine runs at 3.2, on one(3.4 on 4 with ThrottleStop)and despite generation dev, yours is still rated min 20 cpu's below mine;that's 20 between mine and yours; and as more new cpus are added, as you state, yours will fall even farther away. Simple fact

yes, all hardware will fall to lower scores, it's only natural when you have a scale of maximum values, where you compare everything ot the maximum/best.
I honestly think that for gaming I'll be having a better time since almost all games use 2 cores at least and some 4, but few use more than that as of now, so I'll be utilizing my cpu at its near-whole levels (unless I get a gpu bottleneck)

while also using my turbo boost. There are games like Rome Total War II that are made specially optimised for hasswell cpus and its igpus, i ve tried the game. I didn't know this cpu has a turbo boost too, interesting. I'll consider running this benchmark as long as it is absolutely safe. But still, even though this kind of controversy over the positioning of the Core i7-840QM is pointless, send

I'm just hearing a lot--A lLot of Mulhala-anda-yada-yada from you, Generalissimo; so it's pointless to continue this; I run most games in high, and they're, along with 3dmark, are posted here on GD, and anybody can find 'NoteBookCheck Mobile Possessors' on the internet and see yours 20 below mine. So, ENDE. Finish! WILL NO LONGER COMMENT in return, because your cpu just isn't worth it. :)

LOL DDotDash, you are the one saying nonsense AND insulting me. You came here making posts about how this CPU is misranked, and how well you play games, I then commented to help you realise the whole situation and not only do you continue not to understand (even though in some of my posts I said you might be right under circumstances), but you also accuse me falsely. This conversation ends here.

I would not have answered your question (again) but since no one else will due to your rudeness, here are some benchmarks just like you wished:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-4500U+%40+1.80GHz

According to Passmark:
i7 840qm VS i7 4500u
Average CPU Mark: 3402 vs 3870
Single threaded: 983 vs 1599
