Pentium Dual Core E5500 2.8GHz Review
The Pentium Dual-Core brand was used for mainstream x86-architecture microprocessors from Intel from 2006 to 2009 when it was renamed to Pentium. The processors are based on either the 32-bit Yonah or (with quite different microarchitectures) 64-bit Merom-2M, Allendale, and Wolfdale-3M core, targeted at mobile or desktop computers.
In terms of features, price and performance at a given clock frequency, Pentium Dual-Core processors were positioned above Celeron but below Core and Core 2 microprocessors in Intel's product range. The Pentium Dual-Core was also a very popular choice for overclocking, as it can deliver optimal performance (when overclocked) at a low price.

Hey, would I be able to upgrade from this processor? While keeping my current motherboard etc? Like if I wanted to buy an i3 or something.

Sorry but no...
All i3 CPUs come with socket 1155 or 1156. They won't even fit into your socket 775 mobo. Buying a new motherboard is probably your only choice. However, if you don't really want to change the mainboard, try to use a hammer to make the CPU fit into your mainboard or get a QUAD core CPU.

Yup, any Core 2 Quad will fit. Try to get a Q9550, Q9505, Q9550S, Q9505S, or Q9650 as they are the BEST core 2 Quad CPUs. Beside, to date, Core 2 Quad Q9650 beats all i3 CPUs. Don't get Core 2 Extreme CPUs. Do they fit? Yes they do. However, I your mainboard itself does not support Core 2 Extreme CPUs, plus they are older, more expensive and consume more power.
