The 4690k would certainly have advantages in just pure gaming because of the better support and newer architecture, but when multitasking, the 2600k would probably be better if the task uses the hyperthreading

itsa a pretty strong cpu so you wouldnt have noticable bottlenecks, with any card sometimes a 290 wally below 250 else a 280x, its still a good card sometimes far better than 960

your current cpu is pretty powerful :) you could overclock it but a bit because it isn't unlocked cpu , in your place i would't upgrade i5 is still very good cpu to play modern games :) ofcource if you can find i7 2600k or 2700k for cheap price ofcource it would be worth , because comparing to newest i7 4790k , this cpu just 5-10% slower in rendering and encoding video's but for gaming it's great :)

that 280x seems very power hungry mn psu is 750?? idk bout that but was looking at the 380x didn't seem as power hungry but that 960 seems to hit a sweet spot as not power hungry and good output as far as graphics

Stock coolers are designed for stock speeds. You'll see higher temps than aftermarket coolers but you will still be in the safe range.
