In almost every review/benchmark/test I can find, a G850 is actually more powerful than this and other level 8 AMD cpus. So... how is this better than mine? I want to build an AMD machine but not with a less powerful processor than mine.

They are probably same, 9500 was one of the last c2q from Q2 2010, this is based on K-10 like phenom 2 also from 2010
Q9500 was high-end model, while a8-3850 is low cost apu with tuned old K-10 architecture, thats why
