Core i5-2550K 3.4GHz Review
Core i5-2550K 3.4GHz is the latest addition to the i5 series released by Intel in 2009-2012.
Currently little is known about this CPU but considering the very similar specifications to the Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz, the performance should be only a tiny bit better. Given the power of the 2500K that this upgraded version is based on this is enough to play all of today's games at maximum settings smoothly.

My recommendation i5-3570k(goooood for overclocking) and if you can PSU 500w(550W) for latter upgrade's. ;)

I'd choose between i5-2500K (cheaper, and the 100MHz doesn't matter), and the FX-8320 (much better power efficiency).
However, if you have that gpu, the cpu is overpowered, I'd go with an
FX-6300 or the upcoming FX-4350 and an HD7750

The FX, simply put.
A lot of reviews are negative about it, but it's not so bad and especially with the new consoles running AMD 8-cores, optimisation for console ports is going to be great.

There's another story for optimization, most companies are gonna make the pc game and then port them over to the consoles, so there's no plus point with optimization. But i still recommend you to go with the FX-8350, its cheaper and very overclockable.

quad core vs 6 core in gaming the quad will win as it is from intel, six cores is overkill

You can't compare CPUs from different micro-architectures based on number of Cores and clock frequencies :)

I'm no novice with hardware, I can build PC's, but I'm a little confused. I'm sorry to the experts if this really is a dumb question, but what makes this sooo much better than, say, a Phenom II X4 965 BE? Same number of cores, same clock, same cache, but this i5 is around £180 cheapest, and the Phenom is £90 :S I just don't understand at all where the different comes from. If I set these up on two identical systems, am I going to see around £90 worth of difference? It's a lot of money for, what appears to be, no difference at all. Again, sorry if I'm being a complete noob XD

aaaah where to start, firstly phenom 2 is from 2009 so compare it to intel c2q. Phenom 2 was competitive even to older i5 cpus for some time, but then intel in 2011 made huge jump forward with their new 32nm technology and left all other chip manufacturers like GloFo or TSMC and chip designer AMD, behind in technology war but no one can match intel -they have around 100 000 employees AMD for reference only 10 000

Thanks for the info :) But, is it really worth twice the price? :S If I just wanted to have a gaming system that could max out any game, surely the Phenom II could do this (with a good enough GPU to keep up of course). I'm just looking to upgrade from my Athlon II X3 and for a low budget, the Phenom II looked perfect, what's your opinion on that upgrade?

phenom is good for user who have them for another one or two years but if you want something to last longer get intel i3 or FX-6300 that can support faster video cards without bottlenecking them
For you res FX-6300 is little better, too bad you cant upgrade from your motherboard :(
