Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Game Requirement Analysis

Core i5-3470 3.2GHz is a performance CPU based on the 22nm, Ivy Bridge architecture.

It offers 4 Physical Cores (4 Logical), initially clocked at 3.2GHz, which may go up to 3.7GHz and 6MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.

The processor integrates relatively weak Graphics called Intel HD Graphics 2500, with 6 Execution Units, initially clocked at 650MHz and that go up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 77W.

Its performance is very good and sufficient for extreme gaming.

You should get a minimum cpu of 4 cores, But pentium processors changed alot get a decent pentium g4560 and overclock it to 4 ghz

Had this CPU for a while and I know its multiplier is locked ,but lately updated my MSI Z77A-G43 BIOS to its latest version. After the update I have the ability to change my multiplier to 40 [4.0Ghz]. This is great news for I5 3470 users.

The only downside is the CPU runs constantly @ 4Ghz and EIST enabled doesn't help. I tried everything.

Tip: Get good RAM with this CPU.

Masterpiece CPU this.
Will be reaching it's limits for demanding games during 2017 I'm afraid.
Still good for another 2 years.

With older i5s like this one, Make sure you have the fastest set of DDR3 you can find. Believe it or not but their is a difference in how much the game pulls on your CPU with 1333 vs 1600. You need at'least 1600mhz speed ram at 9,9,9,28.

"Bottleneck" means that one of your hardwares in your system is too weak compared to the other hardwares in your system. For example CPU bottleneck means that your CPU is too weak in your system for that specific game that you wanna play with.

Oh, and this CPU will do fine with the R9 480, there will be a small "CPU bottleneck", but if you overclock that, then you'll have no problem in most modern games in my opinion.

@Niloy94 I can assure you it wont bottleneck any card right now in any game even the most demanding CPU Intensive open-world games and will run everything like a breeze.

Witcher 3 arguably the biggest open world and a proper current-gen game(No old-gen version)

Starcraft 2 another CPU demanding games at CPU demanding settings..(lower settings)As you increase settings bottleneck decreases..infact goes away in most cases.

i didnt downwoted you about bottlenecking the i5 3450 will bottleneck gtx 980 in bf4 some maps prfect example is siege of shanghai and downbraker also flod zone even i7 4790k on 4.0 ghz reach 99% usage on those maps

I never said you did..I mean in a game like BF4 which is like piece of cake for a card like GTX980 will already be above 60FPS..And most users have 60HZ displays so you cant really notice any gains so its a moot point and if you increase settings like 4K down-sampling and such then as I said when you push graphics that High… Bottleneck due to CPU almost vanishes.

it depedns but if someone prefer 144hz monitor then he should consider about good cpu in first place becouse even if you lower settings you may not get more fps…

But then you most likely would not be playing with a single GPU and a 'measly' i5 they will most likely have SLI/Crossfire X setup with 1440p and above monitors.

I dont think I need mention anymore and btw the more you increase graphics settings the more bottleneck minimizes as load shifts more to your GPU….I hope whenever some body disagrees please quote how and why..Thank you.
