Core i5-3450 3.1GHz Game Requirement Analysis

Core i5-3450 3.1GHz is a performance CPU based on the 22nm, Ivy Bridge architecture.

It offers 4 Physical Cores (4 Logical), initially clocked at 3.1GHz, which may go up to 3.5GHz and 6MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.

The processor integrates relatively weak Graphics called Intel HD Graphics 2500, with 6 Execution Units, initially clocked at 650MHz and that go up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 77W.

Its performance is very good and sufficient for extreme gaming.

Yes it can run every game at 60fps…
Only games that I tested, that can max out this cpu (and I guess every cpu that exists) are Total War titles, when I put insane number of units in custom battle xD

Yes, they will work together with no problems. The GPU only depends on what CPU and PSU you have and Core i5-3450 is quite capable, so luckily you shouldn't see any noticeable bottleneck pairing it with either the 380 or the 960.

Not true:)
Motherboards only limit you at possibility to overclock and future upgrades… how many slots for ram memory you have or sata and other connectors. You get the point :D
Update bios to newest version and nothing to worry about ;)

Can anyone suggest the best GPU for this processor? I'm thinking of buying the MSI GTX 960 2GB for this one or maybe the AMD RX 480 whichever is cheaper. Thanks!

Both are good, if you want 1080p you won't go wrong with GTX 960 but it's not good for future since it has only 2GB of vRAM so waiting for RX 480 is a better option.

How about PSU? Will a 400W suffice?

Yeah 400W PSU is the minimum for GTX960, however I suggest paying a little bit more(like $20) for a 500W PSU just to be sure and able to upgrade to a bit stronger GPU later on. Also wait for RX480 they are about to be released, get the 8GB version since it will be $20-30 more and much more futureproof.

Yep, I decided that I'll get the RX480 instead of the GTX960. Will get the 4GB version only because I'm in a budget and I wouldn't need the extra VRAM and I'm okay with gaming at low-medium settings. I'll also get a 500W PSU for the 480 :)

Well the 4GB version would still be enough to play current games on high-ultra 1080p with this processor. You will have a pretty nice budget PC :)
