There’s a new trailer out for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, and from the looks of things it looks as if 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft could well be avoiding the usual pitfall of videogame movie adaptations, ie being a bit crap.
This latest look is a bit more focused on the technological wizardry behind the Animus and how Callum Lynch can experience the memories of his ancestor. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of token rooftop running, death defying leaps and enough sneaky shivvings to make Rikers Island look like Disneyland.
In the absence of a new Assassin’s Creed game this is as good as it gets for us this year. With any luck the movie can fill the gap with some aplomb, although the usual reservations about game movies have to apply. I often think the modern day segments of the games are totally without merit, so hopefully we don’t have to spend too long looking at the inside of a prison cell. A historical period piece seems all the more appealing. Still, I’m eager to find out how the movie pans out which is more than can be said for most efforts.
Assassin’s Creed is hitting cinemas from December 21st onwards. Here in the UK we’ve got a little bit of a wait until January 1st, 2017.
