Everyone and their aunt knows Dishonored 2's launch a few weeks ago was a bit of a train wreck. There was talk of widespread performance issues for PC players, even those with high-end systems but especially those with medium spec rigs. We take a look at it with the every man's GTX 950 to find out what the average Joe can experience from Dishonored 2.

For our benchmarks we put Dishonored 2 to the test against the PNY GeForce GTX 950, equipped with 2GB video memory. It’s backed up by 8GB DDR3 memory and an AMD FX-4100 CPU. We ran through a number of short segments with each preset and a selection of different resolutions taking an average frame rate.

Having seen what the adaptive resolution had done to our beastly GTX 1060 in our previous benchmark, we didn't want to go near it with a ten foot pole with our poor underdog the GTX 950, we wanted a purer benchmark so we can really see what we're getting.
As you can probably see, Dishonored II gave our poor little set up a run for its money. Despite it being hard to pick out what it was that was actually so intensive on the system, it was very hard to get a stable frame rate in Dishonored 2.
Being just about playable on the Very Low preset, it still massively dipped in places before stabilising. This might be down to the CPU rather than graphics card, but regardless it wasn't very easy on our eyes.
As for anything much higher than Very Low, it begins to border on the unplayable side of things, which we were quite disappointed by. It seems the engine Arkane been using still has some loose ends somewhere that need to be tied up as it still feels slightly un-optimised. But then it could be the way that AAA games will go moving forward, leaving poorer spec systems in their trail of dust.
If you want to check out some comparative shots of Ultra vs. Low why not check out our GTX 1060 6GB benchmark and see how a more high-end rig coped.
