Arkane Studios has been busy putting the finishing touches to a big new Dishonored 2 update which is due to go live next week. It’s not all bug fixes and performance tweaks either, because Update 2 adds in a Custom Difficulty option so you can create your own challenges, along with a mission select and the brutal new Iron Mode.

There are more than 20 different sliders that can be tweaked, letting users customise everything from how easy you are to spot when leaning out from behind a barrier, to how quickly Sleep Darts can take effect.

Those who are absolute gluttons for punishment can also give the new Iron Mode a go. This basically cranks every slider up to the max with permadeath and no saving or loading games. “Iron Mode adds even more teeth to Dishonored 2,” said lead designer Dinga Bakaba. “You will have to live with the consequences of your actions, or die permanently because of them.”

Fortunately with the new Chapter Select this means you won’t have to Iron Mode your way through the entire game, but you can attempt each individual missions at the hardest possible difficulty. I know some folks like to attempt this themselves on their own runs through Dishonored 2, so it’s neat to see a way included to actually enforce it.

Dishonored 2 Update 2 will becoming to PC in a beta form on January 18th, so you'll have to opt in to get it straight away. Console players will have a little wait until January 23rd.

Will this update breath new life into Dishonored 2 for you? Or are you done and dusted with Emily and Corvo?
