Our hopes for Red Dead Redemption on PC have flickered and faded like the dying light of an Arizona sunset, but there is hope of an alternative. A mod team has just announced the hugely impressive looking Red Dead Redemption V, porting the entire Red Dead Redemption map over to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.
It’s not quite the real thing but it’s a good second best. The team achieved it by creating ‘.White’, a toolkit for extracting maps and other data from RAGE-based (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) games. The full map they’ve imported is looking gorgeous, given a few extra touches thanks to some GTA 5-exclusive visual effects.
They’re hoping for a beta release of Red Dead Redemption V this summer, when it’s going to be available for both offline and online play, through FiveM, Five Reborn, etc.
Initially it looks as if it’s just going to be the map, so you’ll be running and gunning along the Mexican border with grenade launchers and motorbikes, however the mod team has said it plans to add new features and content post-launch. At the very least it should be pretty straightforward to throw in some cowboy skins, but weapons and horses are likely to be a trickier concern.
Considering Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t even been announced for PC yet, this is about as good as it’s going to get for Rockstar fans on PC. Who’s going to give it RDRV a download?
