After what amounts to years of rumours and now a week of incessant teasing, Ubisoft has blown the doors off of Far Cry 5. The full gameplay reveal has arrived, showcasing a redneck rollercoaster as the protagonist takes on a gang of militant religious fanatics deep in the Rocky Mountains.

Far Cry 5 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One and Project Scorpio on February 27th, 2018.

Set in the rural surroundings of Hope County, Montana, you play as a new junior deputy with the Hope County police department, although all is that is it seems. A fanatical doomsday cult, known as Project of Eden's Gate, is trying to take over the county. The cult kidnapping locals, torturing them and converting them to the cause.The deputy joins forces with the Hope County Resistance, a local force trying to fight gainst the cult. While tracking down and killing cult members, players will have access to planes, big rigs, muscle cars, monster trucks, ATVS, boats and more. 

Set in a huge open world, as per every Far Cry bar the original, Far Cry 5 features the idyllic countryside of Montana, including farmland, forests, mountains and rivers.

“We want to make sure that the game builds a believable pressure,” says creative director Dan Hay. “So we built a beautiful world, and we want you to visit it. We want you to be able to experience all the gameplay, the anecdote factory, everything you know from Far Cry. But we want to put a believable pressure on that,” referring to the apocalyptic cult who are pursuing a campaign of intimidation

The entirety of Far Cry 5's campaign will be playable in two-player co-op. Players will have access to a huge arsenal of weaponry, including everything from sniper rifles and shotguns to sledgehammers and baseball bats. In true Far Cry style, you can go in all guns blazing or take the softly softly approach, even recruiting the help of a local bear or cougar.

Lastly, the map editor will be returning for Far Cry 5. Players are free to create their chaotic playgrounds and custom missions, as well as share them with others.
