Shadow of the Colossus isn’t your typical HD remaster; that already happened years ago with the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection on PS3. Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 has been remade from the ground up, the extent of which has been detailed in a new video showcasing Shadow of the Colossus’ entire intro sequence alongside developer commentary.

Not only have the visuals and the environments been complete remodelled and textured, but Bluepoint Games has also overhauled the animations and added environmental details that just weren’t there before. On the PS2 original, there are sections where Wander is trekking against a barren plain, yet with this remake, entire forest areas have been added while simultaneously trying to keep the epic sense of scale that the game’s known for.

Bluepoint long ago proved itself the grand master of remasters with PS4 versions of Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and the PS2 God of War and Metal Gear Solid HD Collections, but Shadow of the Colossus is on another level entirely. It’s already looking visually stronger than The Last Guardian, which is no mean feat, and also improved thanks to a reworked control system that brings SotC more into line with what we expect from games today.

The Shadow of the Colossus PS4 remake is out on February 6th, 2018, worldwide.
