The commitment that Techland has put into supporting Dying Light over the years has just been insane. It’s been almost three years and they don’t show any signs of slowing. If you're still not bored of zombies yet, Techland is doing you a fine service. The latest announcement is for Dying Light: Bad Blood, which is the first ever PvP expansion for Dying Light.
Techland’s influences are laid pretty bare here, admitting the new Player vs Player Bad Blood game mode is a direct result of the recent popularity of the battle royale genre.
“Our aim is both to satisfy players’ demands for competitive PvP gameplay and to explore new directions for Dying Light’s multiplayer experience,” said Tymon Smektala, Producer at Techland. “Since Bad Blood was inspired by fan requests, we want player feedback to be an integral part of our development. That's why we’re inviting Dying Light fans to take part in our Global Playtest. They can play the expansion early and share their thoughts, knowing their feedback will have a major influence on Bad Blood's development.”
Bad Blood will blend competitive PvP with PvE, so it sounds a little like the upcoming Hunt: Showdown from Crytek. You and five other players are dropped into a hostile zone. Your aim is to evacuate before nightfall, scavenging weapons and attempting to harvest enough blood samples from the infected to get a set on the extraction chopper. Players can team up to take down bosses and split the goods, or turn on one another and ransack their blood samples. “Make sure you have enough evacuation points once the chopper arrives, and don’t get killed as you race to the extraction zone.” It doesn’t really sound like a battle royale, to be honest, aside from trying to stay alive like in just about every PvP game out there. Still, it's probably a handy way for Techland to attract a little more attention for the mode.
If you're interested in giving Dying Light’s new Bad Blood mode a shot then a global playtest will be starting soon. Places are limited but you can sign up and register your interest here.
