Ubisoft has outlined major update plans for Assassin’s Creed Origins, paving the way for the first major expansion pack to arrive later this month. January is all The Hidden Ones, a large-scale DLC in which Bayek and his band of Assassins will head to an all-new region in AC: Origins to get stuck into a tangle between the Romans and a rebel faction.

A “vast story” is promised, on top of what’s already a mammoth game, bumping the level cap up from 40 to 45 in the process. The Hidden Ones is set in the Sinai Peninsula, an area of the world that be a little familiar to Battlefield 1 players, and will take place several years after the events of the main game. By now we should assume the Brotherhood is an established force in Egypt, attempting to resist the Roman dominance which had been sweeping across Europe and Africa.

As part of the first title update for January, a new quest will be getting added that’s available to everyone and paves the way for The Hidden Ones. You’ll now also be able to sell spare outfits at weaver shops for extra cash, while the Heka chests item pool has now been expanded, allowing players to run quests to earn items which were previously locked behind DLC. This includes the Nightmare, First Civilization, Gladiator and Wacky Packs.

A smattering of other cosmetics and weapons are also inbound throughout the month, including a natty For Honor number that can be unlocked using Uplay Units, a currency that’s usually in abundant supply for Ubi fans.

Last but by no means least, the Trials of the Gods will be getting trotted once again. If you still haven’t had a chance to have a go at these trials, which are the hardest challenges available in AC: Origins, then the god of the dead, Anubis, is available from today through to the 16th, while the crocodile-headed Sobek is waiting for a duel from January 23rd through to the 30th.

There’s no specific date given yet for the Title Update nor The Hidden Ones, but both are arriving at some point in January. The Hidden Ones is included with the Assassin’s Creed Origins season pass, or available to purchase separately for those wanting to go the à la carte route.
