Bethesda’s marketing guru Pete Hines is already hyping up the publisher’s presence at E3 2018 in June, teasing that there’ll be plenty of new game reveals for fans.
"We have some surprises in store," said Hines to GameReactor. "We're gonna be talking about a healthy number of new games and new projects and look, I'm really excited. We've been working on E3 for this year since September of last year. I'm already seven, eight months into working on E3, but I really like how it's coming along. I think there's gonna be something in there for everyone regardless of what you play on or what kind of games you're into, and my biggest hope always is that we deliver on the promise of E3."
What’s particularly curious this year for Bethesda is just how little we know about what they’ve got planned. Aside from the Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset release in June, Bethesda hasn’t officially announced any other projects. Most of its studios released a game either last year or in 2016, so it’s going to be tight for them to turn around new announcements.
Tantalisingly though, Hines has also intimated we could be set for a similar tactic to what we saw last year. At E3 2017, Bethesda announced Wolfenstein II, The Evil Within 2, and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, successfully bringing them all out within just five months. "I think we promised a lot of stuff last year, we shipped every one of those games and they were all really good quality - I think we had the highest Metacritic rating of any publisher in 2017 - and that's our goal again this year, is to not only talk about new stuff but also deliver on those promises and give people the kind of games that they really want and expect from Bethesda."
As for DOOM, this little nugget comes from Hines chatting away with Dualshockers. When talking about the company’s plans for E3, he dropped a very unnatural phrase that heavily hinted DOOM 2 may be inbound. “Whether or not folks realize it, this is the hell on earth time for us with E3,” said Hines. “We are in the midst of so much planning and work for all of that content but I’m really excited.”
