And on the seventh day, Lord Tachanka created House, or so the old saying goes. House has been consistently one of the most popular maps in Rainbow Six Siege since its launch, but it’s been conspicuous by its absence in Ranked play for the past six months. It’s because the pros are just too damn good at a map which is considerably smaller than any other, but for us lowly peons it was a perfect blend of simplicity and recognisability.

For now, House appears to be on the backburner for Ubisoft, but a much larger, far more complex take on House could be inbound with the Villa map. It’s arriving with the upcoming Operation Para Bellum season, and it features a massive Italian villa set in the countryside. There’s a brand new trailer out for Siege’s Villa map, delving into its layout for the first time.

Early impressions make it look mightily impressive. It’s a Villa set against the backdrop of the Italian countryside. There are at least four floors, complete with a wine cellar in the basement and the token garage. The rest of the map looks far more open than the likes of House, and is packed with ornate marble statues, an open-plan kitchen, plenty of bedrooms upstairs, and what looks to be a secret vault packed filled with, among other things, Sledge’s hammer on display.

“The land belongs to the Vinciguerra, a dangerous crime family known for their smuggling activities,” says Ubisoft. “The house is their retreat, where they lead a lavish lifestyle and collect rare art pieces. Now we catch the villa in a snapshot of time: Vinciguerras are burning documents and transporting their holdings before the big raid. But they’ve got wind of Operation Para Bellum and fled, leaving everything in disarray with vital information ready for the taking.”

Siege is in pretty dire need of a map that really hits it off with the community, and fingers crossed that Villa is that map. Both Tower and Theme Park have been met with muted responses, but this is hopefully a return to more a cohesive style of map design.

The two new Operators that are rumoured to arrive alongside the map are Alibi and Maestro, both defensive Operators. Ubisoft has said a full reveal of Operation Para Bellum will be taking place on May 19-20th during the Pro League Finals.
