And the delays keep on rolling today. Deep Silver has announced Shenmue III has been pushed back yet again and will now be launching in 2019.
The publisher has claimed additional time will be needed to polish Shenmue 3 and ensure it’s the quality expected from a title in the series.
“The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe,” said Deep Silver.
Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has weighed in on the delay in a message to Kickstarter backers, saying “To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III.”
Shenmue III being delayed is probably one of the more predictable things that has happened as of late, but fans and those new to the series will at least have plenty of time to play through the recently announced Shenmue and Shenmue II HD collection before Shenmue 3 arrives. It’ll be the first time the Shenmue series has ever come to PC, and it’ll include high-resolution support and a few additional graphical touch-ups. The package will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later in 2018.
