Wooooooo, our first proper E3 trailer. Vostok Games, the developers behind Survarium and featuring S.T.A.L.K.E.R. veterans, has revealed the first proper trailer for Fear the Wolves, a STALKER-inspired Battle Royale first-person shooter set in a radioactive wasteland.

In true Battle Royale form, Fear the Wolves parachutes 100 players into a post-nuclear wasteland with nothing but their fists to survive. Players can scavenge for weapons, including a fire-axe, a nimble knife, or all manner of guns, as well as gear that can protect them from radioactive elements. The very best gear can be found within radioactive anomalies. These areas are naturally a hot-spot for players and AI enemies though, as well as being truly deadly by their very nature.

“As the radioactivity of an area worsens, reality begins to break down,” explains Vostok. “Dangerous areas distort and enter flux as they pulse with radiation. In the early stages, the adrenaline from sprinting will stop you taking damage, but after that only gas masks and hazard suits will keep the poisonous air and deadly rays out. You are never safe, but you can be more protected than your enemies, using this advantage to access areas they can’t, to loot more and flank them.”

Aside from the STALKER vibes, the big difference between Fear the Wolves and the likes of PUBG is the presence of AI mutant monsters. The first to be revealed are the titular wolves. They hunt in packs and can prove a real drain on ammo. Opening fire will alert other players to your presence, although the most tricksy of survivors could lead a wolf pack directly to other, unsuspecting players.

The ultimate aim of Fear the Wolves is to make it the waiting extraction helicopter. Unfortunately, it’s a helicopter with space for just one occupant, while the changing location of the helicopter should ensure no two matches are ever the same.

Fear the Wolves is coming to Steam Early Access this summer, with a console release due at a later point.
