Leaked Specs Indicate Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti Is 50 Per Cent Faster Than Titan Black
The first details have allegedly leaked on the GM200 GPU that may be powering the GeForce GTX 980 Ti or the GTX Titan X, from the very same source responsible for the original GeForce GTX 980 spec leak. Nvidia impressed the high-end PC gaming world immensely with the introduction of the GTX 900 series, offering top-end power for a great price. Now though Nvidia looks to be pushing things to the next level with the GM200, set to be its fastest chip yet.
The Nvidia ‘Big Daddy’ Maxwell GPU is expected to power Nvidia’s newer flagship card in the GTX 900 series. The actual name of the card has yet to be revealed, but it’s thought to be something along the lines of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti. Initial specs put this monstrous Maxwell-powered graphics card at roughly 50% more powerful than the GTX Titan Black.

The GeForce GTX 980 and the GTX 970 have both been roaring successes, the 970 in particular, but they may not rule the roost for much longer.
That’s some serious power under the hood, but where does it all come from? Firstly, the GM200 GPU will be on a 551mm2 die, with an estimated 20-22 Streaming Multiprocessors Maxwell (SMM) giving a total of between 2560 and 2816 CUDA cores. This will all be on a 384-bit memory bus, up from the 256-bit bus seen on the GeForce GTX 980 and the GeForce GTX 970.
In total this makes the theoretical performance of the GeForce GTX 980 around 50% faster than the GTX Titan Black, so if these specs are true then we’ve got one heck of a powerful card. Nvidia has yet to pass official comment on the existence of this graphics card but we know at least that MSI is waiting for the imminent release of a faster chip. Reports indicate the GTX 980 Ti, or whatever it ends up being known, will hit stores before the end of the year.
The GTX 980 Ti isn’t the only card set to arrive either, with the GM204 GPU seen in the GTX 980 expected to power a dual-GPU GeForce GTX 990 as well. Whatever the case both of these cards are going to be at the top end of hardware spectrum so we’d expect price points to suit, although we’d be surprised if either of these cards exceeded the price of the GTX Titan Black. Do you think we can expect the sort of impressive performance suggested by these specs? Let us know!
