Assassins Creed MMO in the Making?
Ubisoft’s wholly-owned studio Massive Entertainment has recently advertised for a designer for a “highly ambitious AAA Next-gen Online RPG project”.
What this title actually is remains to be seen, but the rumour-mill’s front-runner would appear to be an Assassins Creed MMO of some variety…
That said, the actual job listing itself at no point mentions an MMO, although from a studio called ‘Massive’, and with liberal use of MMO-centric terms and a request for experience playing PvP at high level in a major MMO, it would certainly seem extremely likely.
At this point, anything beyond the advert itself (which can be seen here) is just speculation, but we at GD wonder if Assassins Creed is necessarily a good idea for a MMORPG, seeing as the franchise to date isn’t what you’d describe as a traditional RPG. Would it mean a redesign of the fundamental principles of the franchise?
One of the things about the Assassins Creed series that has been so successful is the use of interesting and unusual settings and locations not usually associated with action-adventure games. Where then, if this is an AC MMORPG, will the franchise look next? Ancient China? Modern-Day London? Victorian Finland?
Where would you like to see the next Assassins Creed MMO set? Post your ideas in the discussions thread.
