It looks like Creative Assembly is taking Total War back to the Roman Empire with - Total War: Rome II. It is well known that the Total War series is one of the most successful in its genre, and its inevitable that the next in the series will be along shortly.
The Total War games are put together by two teams, which enables them to share engines and work on separate games at the same time. Rise and Fall of the Samurai were recently launched but that will not slow down the almost routine...
The fans on the other hand were eager to know whose freedom they will be fighting for this time because they weren't too happy with the battles in feudal Japan! They wanted a change and it looks like they are getting it. The latest issue of PC PowerPlay magazine features a teaser that shows off an image that is most probably Total War: Rome II. While no official confirmation about this has been received(it rarely ever is), we felt that this is a likely direction for Creative Assembly considering the already solid research they have on the era and the continued popularity of the Roman Empire.
First game, Rome, met with appreciation from fans, was placed in the early days of the Roman Empire where players controlled one of the three influential families and battled both on the domestic as well as foreign soil in order to become the Emperor. Sounds Roman, doesn't it? Maybe this time, they will focus on the latter part of the inevitable fall of the Empire.
Oh, and if you didn't notice me saying "Total War: Rome II" instead of the other way around, well, either your totally lost in the ambience of the game or you're not a fan. Yes, it was changed when Shogun 2 released, but there is a reason as to why this has happened. Remember the word 'Call of Duty'? Yea, the household name that sells like crazy on the name alone.. well, this is what SEGA is looking to capture. Making Total War a brand that gamers can associate with instantly, while churning out quality games that wow fans and critics alike.
So when can you expect the announcement of the game? We at GD think it may occur at Rezzed, a PC and Indie games show. Creative Assembly are at the event and they plan to address the future of Total War series, and this is likely when they will unravel Rome II. It is scheduled to begin on July 6th - mark it down if you want, but GD have been invited, so providing Felix isnt too busy he will be bringing you the info as it happens.
In the end, what do you make of this? An announcement in the making or a grapevine? Do let us know what you think of a proposed Total War: Rome II in the comments below.
