While Nintendo's Wii had the titles and motion control to make it the most successful console of the current generation, it lacked the all-important Online Experience to make as much impact as it's peers.

Microsoft's Xbox 360. Xbox LIVE network is the biggest proof of the fact that if done right, console gaming network is the most profitable and successful step into the next generation of games. Sony also has it's Playstation Network which, while not as successful as Xbox LIVE, is better as it gives the gamer a choice for either a free subscription or a premium subscription; with not much difference in between. While Xbox LIVE cost gamers a premium subscription, which it makes up by providing the most unique and robust online service. In the end, for the amount of similarities both possess in content and services, the PSN price of free outweighs XBL of $50 and even more at $100. Your thoughts?

Getting back to Wii U, at a recent conference meeting at Japan, Nintendo president Saito Iwata said he didn't have any problems with premium subscriptions but stressed that a free-subscription would be the apt choice moving forward with the Wii U. By using the all-new avatar-powered Miiverse(short for Mii Universe); gamers can visually connect with other players, share information, form/find groups, make friends and well, socialize. A feature, Wii U will share with  Xbox's Live Avatars and PS3's Playstation Home. Only in Wii U, they are going to take it a notch higher as they always do.

Nintendo appointed Ex-Disney Interactive's Duncan Orell-Jones to fill in the newly created post of SVP of Network business. Miiverse will be under his care and he will be tasked with overseeing the evolution of Nintendo's new Network - Miiverse. Only time will tell if Nintendo can surprise us with it's resurgence in the online department but nonetheless, its a step in the right direction. We at GD think of it as a shot in the arm with adverse ..consequences.
