Radical Entertainment To Stop Making Games

Radical Entertainment, the developers behind Prototype and subsidiary of Activision, announced at the end of June that they will no longer be making new games.

However, their upcoming PC release, Prototype 2, is still due for release on schedule later this month…

While Radical will be significantly downsized, they will continue to exist in the capacity of “supporting other existing Activision Publishing products”, which could mean they’ll be making DLC, or perhaps just snapping in to existing development studios as needed to pick up slack on other projects.

It does seem that development studios with the word Radical in their name are plagued with poor fortune. Timesplitters-famed Free Radical Design were swallowed up by Crytek back in 2009 after a painful fight for survival, and now Radical Entertainment have more-or-less gone under, claiming that Prototype “did not find a commercial audience”.

All of Radical Design’s planned future releases (including a game based on the world of the Bourne Identity) have been cancelled by Activision.

Pandemic Studios, Ensemble Studios and now this.... this is mostly due to the Studio's inability to churn out quality games in my opinion. Both Pandemic and Ensemble went defunct by EA and Microsoft respectively; because their portfolio mostly contained Flop games and it wasn't feasible on the Publishers' part to lose both time and money. Economic conditions were only the catalysts. Sad though. So many developers left to wander for jobs now..
