DayZ Stand Alone Game

The surprise hit of the summer, Day-Z a zombie survival mod for ArmA II, will be turned into a stand alone game.

Dean Hall, the creator of Day-Z, will be the project lead. This is both good and bad news for the mods one million plus players...

The good news is the stand alone game will be designed with an apocolyotic zombie survival game as the end goal rather than a mod been placed on top of a military sim.

The bad news is that it might be another game that everyone who has recently bought ArmA II:Combined Ops need to buy. The developers have stated that the mod will continue to be supported, for a while anyway.

Whats your thoughts on this? Have you tried the mod and do you think this will allow the game to be developed into something even more special or will it lose its rustic indie mod charm?

I've seen a Dayz stand alone game play and it looks great with no lag. They also said that with the new Arma 3 engine, the game is better optimized. They wont make the game new, everything will be the same with more features added to it.
Currently I get about 40-60 fps in Dayz right now. Love the game, can't wait for stand alone to make the game run even smoother.

Looks like a good idea. They will be able to add more to the game. As a standalone game it will allow for construction and the reduction of hackers. Since Arma is simply a game where if you tell it to spawn something, it will spawn it then they would be able to get rid of all that scripting BS that people do and make the game way better. I support this but the only problem is buying it. Keep it at around 30 dollars and it will be perfect.

Yeah I love the editors in ArmA (and the original Operation Flashpoint) series where you can put spawns and determine their randomness ;)
Made some pretty cool missions back in 2001 :D

It is obvious that this would happen. Only a matter of time. I wasnt sure if this would happen for the new Arma 3 engine/map though.
I figure they will let the Day-Z mod ride itself out in Arma 2 and then after releasing Arma 3 later this year they will focus on the stand alone game of Day Z using the new Arma 3 tech they have built and the bigger map.
