The long anticipated expansion of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty will finally go into beta testing. Starcraft 2 is still played by millions of people online and is the biggest online strategy game out there at the moment.
Pro-players can make a living out of playing StarCraft 2 by joining tournements, which may earn them thousands of dollars...
After the core game focused on human race known as the Terrans, Blizzard announced that their will definitely be 2 expansions. One focuses on the Zerg race (Heart Of The Swarm), and the other one on the Protoss.
What we have now been told is that the beta for the Zerg expansion, Heart of the Swarm, will open shortly. Beta-invites will be given out in waves, starting with a small group of journalists and other important people in the gaming-scene. The waves will increase in size and the casual player can signup to participate in the beta.
The beta will include:
-New units for each race
-A new campaign story-mode
-New multiplayer maps
-Fixes and balances to the races
Blizzard hasnt anounced the price of the expansion yet. There have been rumours about the price, some stating a massive $60! Dont panic just yet though. Blizzard have recently also stated that it will be priced as an expansion rather than a full game. There is no release date anounced.
So what are you waiting for, you can sign up for the beta here (if you have a battle-net account):

What I want to know is, will expansions like Heart of the Storm cause the finely tuned Starcraft 2 to become unbalanced in terms of gameplay or will extra units only added to the tactical brilliance of the game?
