HTC Lose 40 Million Invested In OnLive

HTC has announced that it will lose 40 million dollars due to the current takeover of OnLive.

The phone company invested in OnLive back in Feb 2011, but following the announcement that OnLive has let go of a sizeable chunk of its work force and is up for sale, this investment has been written off by HTC...

Press have been informed that the new OnLive owners are Lauder Partners. The same company that invested in the TV-streaming service Aereo and Livescribe, a maker of Smartpens.

Last Friday the employees of OnLive were found jobless. The company has confirmed that less than half of them have received an offer to return. They hope to re-hire more personal in the future.

OnLive is used by customers to stream games to their PC, so they don't have to install them. The OnLive service claims to have 1.5 million active users.

One problem I have found with onlive is, when you have limited bandwidth and the company dont let onlive use it freely it cost more than the game itself to play it. So steam still the best with all their sale

nothing surprising - I tried just a few hours ago how OnLive works:
I tried Tropico 4 for a couple of minutes - it was smooth but extremely weird resolution due to "slow web connection" as installer said... well if 6Mb/s is slow then how could mobile phones be faster?!...

yeah, but if my webconnection is "weak" for 1280×1024 stream (!- I can watch 1280×720 YouTube videos smoothly), then who will use OnLive ??

And 6Mbps is more than most of gamers have these days... :/

which finally means that instead of 1000$ rig you'll pay 50$/month for web connection;
and only if you're lucky enough and fast connection is possible in certain location:(
