Prices and Specs For New AMD CPUs Revealed
Written by: Warmice
Published on: Sep-22 20:03

AMD is working on a new line of processor's, based on the Piledriver-architecture. These will have to replace the current processor's which are working with the Bulldozer-architecture.

You can pre-order the processor's in a webshop already, which revealed the price...

The prices will vary from 130 to 250 dollars. The processor's without the on board GPU's will have to compete with the Core-i5 and Core-i7 processor's of Intel.

These new FX processor's are released in each the 4000, 6000 and 8000 series. The 4000 series will have 4 cores, the 600 series will have 6 cores and the 8000 series will obviously have 8 cores. The clockspeeds are higher than on their predecesorr's, the FX-8350 can get to 4.2 Ghz with the turbo-boost. According to AMD they are octo-cores.

Here are all the processor's so you can have a clear look.

FX-4300:

Clock speed: 3,8Ghz (4,0 Ghz turbo)

L3-cache: 4MB

Power: 95W

Price: 131$

FX-6300:

Clock Speed: 3,5Ghz (4,1 turbo)

L3-Cache: 8 MB

Power: 95W

Price: 176$

FX-8320

Clock Speed: 3,5Ghz (4,0 Ghz turbo)

L3-Cache: 8MB

Power: 125W

Price: 242$

FX-8350

Clock Speed: 4,0Ghz (4,2Ghz turbo)

L3-Cahce: 8MB

Power: 125W

Price: 253$

Your thoughts on the new series and prices of these CPU's?

Submit A Benchmark

Welcome. From this page you can submit a personal benchmark to GD. Once approved by GD admin everyone can search for your bench results here. The more results the more we all learn.

There are lots of free benchmark tools that test parts of your PC. Select a Type in the form to the right, then select a Tool and then select a Test. You will see a weblink appear beside your selection. Click this link to get the benchmark Tool. Try NovaBench for an all in one benchmark that is only 12Mb to download.

How To

Run your choosen Benchmark Tool on your PC, using the benchmark tool's default setting. Take a screenshot displaying the benchmark score and information displaying your rig and submit that to us.

But It's 4.0 Ghz 8-Core D:

Doesn't matter at all.First that CPU isn't a true qaud-core.It has a four block and each block contain 4 execution/true and 4 floating cores.Second CPU from differnet generations cannot be comapred by frequencie, arthitectuer is the most important thing.FX's rely on AVX instruction set while intel rely on SSE and has AVX too.SSE is much better optimized.....

Thank you for sparing me the trouble of writing what I usually write Maza. The 3930K so grossly overpowers the FX series that there isn't even a point comparing the two.

Difference between FX-8350 and FX-8320 is minor, just L3 cache.What about L1,L2?
It's amazing to see '8' core at 4GHz stock speed! ;)

to bad AMD is to far behind in general CPU's compared to Intel but rather on par in the graphic's card department of nVidia.
AMD is relying on the APU's to get them out of the rut in terms of proccessors and it's been very successful as of late, also with FM2 (Desktop Trinity) rumored to be coming out on Oct. 2nd that supposably is going to be the holy grail in the entry level then got Steamroller which has that HSA addition which is supposed to be the holy grail for their standardized desktop CPU's.

you all must understand one thing:
hardware is advancing faster than (most) games (unlike 1998-2007 era), so even without i7 and GTX670 you can max all games...

in the coming few years the advancement will stagnite and come at a plateau which will give the software ability to catch up, then as we all think it'll get even the hardware will advance even more with software falling behind in a usual matter.

Lol. Me too. I initially bought an Asrock 970 Extreme4 and a 955BE, as temporary CPU, in preparation for the yet to be released Bulldozer proc. But as reviews came up, and finally concluded that it was a flop (I was very disappointed as a matter of fact). I decided to resell them and got an Intel platform instead.

only thing I can suggest:
never buy something with intention to "upgrade later", in most cases it's wasting money;
*except when buying gpu, it's mostly well compatible

i totally agree with tzzsmk. I bought a msi p35 platinum combo which caused be to get an intel duel core in the hopes to upgrade to a quad core. Never got that instead i had to upgrade the whole system with a but load of extra cash and a pain staking lost years to lag Q.Q

I don't like the FX series. They say stuff like 4-cores! 6-cores! 8-cores! With all that [in FX series] BS. Many people know that the FX series aren't real cores that they're supposed to be. And now they want to make every other chip with the same architecture. Even after the bulldozers were a big fail for gamers. I hope they make something like a -Dozer 2 series, where the exact same thing of Phenom to Phenom II happens. Failing- To pwning.

hey man, i dont like FX either. But, regarding your "-dozer 2" comment, do a little research on their NEXT architechture, Steamroller. its pretty cool. It looks like its shaping up to be Bulldozer, with, essentially, better and more complete cores. 8-10 COMPLETE cores, even if theyre not quite Haswell cores, has to be great. cant wait

If they can be on-par with Sandy Bridges... and be TRUE 8-10 Cores, then I might be able to say, AMD rocks. [Not saying Intel sucks, just saying that AMD will be able to improve]

they aren't based on Piledriver but rather a fixed Zambezi Bulldozer arch. Piledriver is Trinity. Steamroller is where things are going to become the best of AMD with HSA that Steamroller will have and it would actually raise the performance considerably near SB levels.

the changes are mainly small changes like the power consumption and about a 5-10% IPC/IPS increase which will bring it up to around the Phenom II levels

There's just no point on making the FX-8320 because people won't try to save $10 when spending $240 already.BTW I love them and maybe buy FX-6300 or FX-8350.
