The Witcher 3 Inspired by Skyrim = More Player Freedom
Written by Luuk on 18 February 2013 at 10:17
The Witcher III

CDProjektRed, the developers behind The Witcher series, claim they are looking at The Elder Scrolls: V carefully in order to polish the upcoming Witcher 3 sufficiently.

On top of that, CDProjektRed states that they are aiming to become even better than Bethesda...

In order to make that dream a reality, they are analysing what people are saying about Skyrim, a massive RPG which was claimed by many to be the best RPG in years. The Witcher 2 was released close to Skyrim, and on it's own also overwhelmed many fans and rpg-lovers. This being said, the expectations for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are already sky high.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz of CDProjektRed calls many quests and characters in Skyrim generic, but also states that they will learn a lot from Bethesda. He explicitly spoke of the open-world features of Skyrim.

In an interview, Tomaszkiewicz said: "The lessons we have learned from Skyrim are that you should always be working on the depth of a game. You cannot show that you have created generic solutions in a game, which did show in Skyrim."

He also claims that The Witcher 2 was better in that aspect; "In Skyrim it is possible to do the same quest over and over a few times, whereas in The Witcher 2 NPC's reacted to your current situation, and can react differently based on the decisions you made."

CDProjektRed promises that The Witcher 3 will offer a lot more freedom than the Witcher 2 offered. As an example they talk about Geralt's horse, which was present in The Witcher books, but not in the game as the maps were not big enough to support travelling by horse. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt however you will be able to travel on your horse, as there are bigger areas to explore, and travelling should take you a lot longer.

Recapitulation

In the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, more focus will be put on the exploring-aspect of the game. As an addition they also promised quests will be less static, and you will be able to find them through exploration and events. To pull this off, they are taking inspiration from games such as Skyrim and Fallout, and mixing it with their own capabilities. Expect a bigger world and less on-rails-experience in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Q1: Why do they make click fight games??
I mean if those click fight games be hack and slash, then they would be amazing
I think thats why Dragon age 1 and 2 have been a flop
Q2: Will dragon age 3 also be point click?

#1) because it gives more space to create animated combo attacks :Đ
#2) I haven't played any Dragon Age yet, who knows..

Skyrim was a good game, it had a lot of depth in the game, but when it came to combat, it failed dismally….But, nonetheless, itwas a gripping game, so Wild Hunt being inspired by Skyrim should be good news.. Nice article by the way

I thought it was WAAAYYYY too easy as well; I eventually turned it to hard mode and was still able to kill anything without taking a scratch (except those pesky fire mages of course)…and I wasn't even halfway to the level cap yet!

0
EzioAuditore2
09:58 Feb-19-2013

Yeah it WAS easy. But the combat system also lacked any kind of creative combos or ANYthing… It was so boring just hacking at the beast and seeing it respond like" You hit me, cool I don't care lol" -_-

0
Warmice
10:43 Feb-19-2013

Well if you advanced further into the game you could unlock certain combos in the skill tree. Using the signs was quite innovative as well, in my opinion.. And then you also have the silver -and steel sword rotation.

0
EzioAuditore2
10:48 Feb-19-2013

I did unlock the combos, but still, it wasn't as fluid nor as interesting as other games… Even if it was to be just hack and slash, there could be many combos, like DmC

0
tzzsmk
10:52 Feb-19-2013

1) Witcher as click-fight game could offer plenty of combos..
2) Skyrim introduced in a patch (I think it was 1.5) awesome looking combat cutscenes, personally I like them

0
Warmice
10:52 Feb-19-2013

Of course, but that's not entirely fair to say, since
1) DMC was released over 2 years later
2) DMC is a game built around combat, whereas The Witcher is built around the story and great graphics, The Witcher still looks better despite being 2 years older than DMC.
All in all, developpers have to make choices, cut into here and built it up there.

@Warmice: Um, I was talking about lack of combos in SKYRIM! I haven't played alot of Witcher
@tzzmsk: I think i didn't know about that patch…. :/ :D

@Ezio see here,
the game should be patched automatically via Steam :Đ

0

But I had the pirated copy: There are no originals in my country, or if there are, they are VERY rare! So its very impractical to have Steam here. Ask C2Q about it :D (I didn't know about Steam till i joined GD ;) )

Skyrim was good for only a few things. The big world, the many side quests although they were boring and the story was nice. Still, I don't forgive them for the ruined gameplay, combat, cinematics and graphics. The Graphics looked fine from outside but it was hollow if you know what I mean. You could just climb a mountain by keeping jumping!! LOL! The Witcher II was a game with no mistake in my opinion. Having open world, horses and more side quests will make the game even more beautiful. Don't forget also about Red Engine 3! Skying was boring, The Witcher is not :)

Yeah even I can't remember characters from Skyrim, but 7-8 from TW2
Skyrim was just too boring, everything too generic and similar, and no cutscenes too
But it was beautiful

I played 750 hours of Skyrim and loved it at the time, but on second play and some reflection, I was able to tell that Skyrim was really not all it was hyped up to be. Still a good game sure; I'd still pay full price for it, but there were a lot of improvements that can be made in future installments. You're right about the forgettable characters for sure though…

Especially the bugs and glitches are annoying. Love the modding community though. A lot of good mods are there to provide extra gameplay time, make it more immersive, etc. I think it has reasonable replayability, as there are just so many ways you can play it… I'm playing it again now as a non-dragonborn character (meaning I don't follow the main storyline whatsoever) and with some extended gameplay mods adding to the dark brotherhood storyline, and I still love it :)

TW2 already good to me. Just ONE thing I want to see in TW3, just ONE thing. Geralt of Rivia can PARRY a sword WITHOUT limit (The yellow thingy in TW2 is the parry limit). That's all. I'm tired of rolling around the bushes avoiding the atk and arrow.

I didn't mind they take an inspiration from Skyrim.
what i'm missing from an RPG is a combination of long playtime and deep cinematic plot in its story like JRPG used to have.
Skyrim has the long playtime and vast adventures, Witcher has the depth in cinematic plot.
Combined that two and its a formula of a perfect RPG.

Exactly. I found Skyrim to be lacking in a lot of ways, so maybe something like a blend of Elder Scrolls + Witcher will be the perfect mix! If so, I hope many more RPGs will learn from its example. :)
