Firefall, the sci-fi MMO released this summer, initially started with the goal of making their PVP section into a full eSport - not a small goal given the sizes of some current eSports.

Firefall Shuts Down PVP Indefinitely For A Rework
For an unknown period of time, there will be no PVP modes at all in Firefall, as the focus turns to the PVE content which has seen a much better reception with players. Red 5 Studios are hoping to bring PVP back, but they haven't given any estimate on when.
Red 5 explained in a news release:
"For these reasons, we have made the tough decision to suspend PvP and take the system offline so that we can rethink it and relaunch it. PvP is an important part of our game, and we want to get it right. So we’re going to regroup, rethink, and deliver the best PvP system we can that can be enjoyed by everyone."
Their statistics showed that the most recently released PVP mode, known as Jetball, was a challenging, high skill game; but only around 3% of players were willing to play it.
