Assassin's Creed III is an action-adventure, sandbox game by Ubisoft. It is the fifth installment in the Assassin's Creed Series. This time modern Assassin Desmond Miles frames the story of Native American Ratonhnhakéton, who eventually becomes known under the name Connor Kenway. The game has the same feel that previous Assassin's Creed games delivered.
The fast-paced sword fighting, free running, parkour along with stealth type gameplay that the series feature remains same in the game. Many new weapons are included in AC3, consisting of signature tomahawk of Connor, along with a hunting bow, rope dart, muskets etc. Game also features new gameplay elements such as hunting and dual-wielding and naval battles.
Parkour is what makes Assassin Creed Assassin Creed, and is very important element of the game. Another new feature of the game of new killing moves, especially combos - you can perform combos, which is to kill two enemies at once, with all sorts of weapons, even with pistol. To be honest, I spent most of the time running here and there and killing redcoats, because it was so fun! Hunting in the game is the thing I neglected, although it was quite realistic, that how you analyze all the clues, then set a snare to hunt a rabbit, or place bait on a specific place to lure animals, I liked it, but not really enjoyed it.
One thing that caught my eye was naval battles. Yes, sailing the ships, hunting down British frigates, it gives me a Pirates Of Carribbean feel. It's very enjoyable and realistic. Sailing ships in heavy sea storms, encountering rogue winds and sea waves, I really liked it. This game has taken free-running to a next level in the series, trees. We can also climb trees and rocks in the game in the frontier region, it's a chere pleasure. This time, the playable map is massive in comparison to other games in the series. Map includes 2 well detailed cities and frontier region. A lot of detailing has been added to the game. You will find various animals including dogs, cats, pigs, rats in the cities roaming around. Frontier region is also very well-detailed and beautiful, you'll find squirells, bee-hives etc. on the trees. Season cycle has also been added to the game, summers, foggy weather, snow etc. Especially winter season is well detailed and fun to play in. Speed of NPC's slow down in the snow and they stumble while walking.
One negative point of the game is controls, which are noticibly different from other games in the series, perhaps they can be annoying at some moments. Menu of the game is also quite confusing. Apart from these, the game has a wonderful gameplay and mechanics, produced through new engine AnvilNext introduced in the game. I would give 8.5/10 to the gameplay.
The majority of the game takes place through thirty years of the life of Connor. Story of the game is quite interesting at the start. Intro of the game is quite long. The story is a bit fast-paced, however, interesting. Dialogues of the protagonists are pretty straight-forward, considering he is a village boy. Connor doesn't possess that kind of charm that Ezio possessed.
Main storyline is about 7-8 hours long, there are optional objectives in the main missions to make the game more challenging. Apart from the storyline, there are numerous side missions, including naval battles, which will keep you entertained for good 30+ hours if you intend to complete them all. Thirty percent of the game is main storyline and rest is side missions and collectibles.
Desmond's storyline is not much complicated, he has to collect 3 power sources and a key to unlock the gate at great temple. Desmond's story's climax was rather shocking to me, totally unexpected and seemed a crappy ending to me. While Connor's story climax was pretty intensive, full of action, although the ending seemed a little childish and not well-written to me. Game has a good and interesting storyline. I would 9/10 to storyline.
Graphics are similar in this game as they were in the previous one. There is not much improvement. Although shadows are nice. There is not much to say about graphics, they are good, makes the game looks good, not that ugly, but there isn't much improvement. I would give 8/10 to graphics.
Assassin's Creed III was a pure fun to play, quite enjoyable. Even when you finish the storyline, it will keep you well-entertained for a long time. As mentioned before, there are numerous side-missions. I do encountered some bugs/glitches, and poor optimization in Boston, which drops my FPS drastically. Apart from that, it is magnificient game, I would really recommend it.
