Fun game mechanics and stealth elements make this game enjoyable, but it is the title’s exceptional and often moving story that raises it above the raft of other AAA FPS games out there. Beautifully presented, the game’s environment, story, and audio are impressively blended. Gameplay-wise, Metro gets lots right, and offers plenty of challenge.
A graphical behemoth, this one has set the bar for sheer graphical grunt. This one’s set in, yes you guessed it, a post-apocalyptic landscape, this time a Russian wasteland. The majority of the game unsurprisingly takes place in the underground metro, presenting tight, claustrophobic settings that are undeniably beautiful in a bizarre apocalyptic way. We said at the time that the visuals are powerfully delivered, the crumbling edifices of Moscow cling to some sense of dignity and grandeur in the face of encroaching devastation and wandering mutants.
