GeForce 800M Series

GeForce 800M Series VS GeForce 700M Series

Based on Raw GD Data. Predicted for 800M Series

and it's official! The NVIDIA GeForce 800M Series are on on their way. We have added those that have been confirmed by the laptop manufacturer CLEVO but we do not know anything - anything at all about its specifications. We hope NVIDIA surprises us with new fresh Maxwell GPUs.

However, things aren't looking good. It seems that Maxwell will still have a 28nm technology and that most of the 800M Series cards will be direct Kepler rebrands. AMD is at fault in the laptop segment, why go further?

Furthermore, GeForce GTX 780M has an extreme advantage over Radeon HD 8970M in a way that even AMD optimized games run better on GeForce GTX 780M. Why does this happen? Because Radeon HD 8970M is just a higher-clocked Radeon HD 7970M while GeForce GTX 780M featured one extra SMX when compared to GeForce GTX 680M. Thus, the performance difference between a Radeon HD 8970M and its predecessor is less than 10% while its way above 25% when looking at GeForce GTX 780M and its predecessor.

Therefore, don't expect GeForce GTX 880M to have a Maxwell GPU, but hey, you never know...

One thing that surprises me also is the fact that GeForce GT 850M is said to come only with a DDR3 Variant whereas in the past GeForce GT 650M & GeForce GT 750M both had DDR3/GDDR5 variants making GeForce GTX 660M/GeForce GTX 760M obsolete.

What do you think? Are you buying a new laptop? If so, aiming for a 800M card?

Unless you get a gaming laptop with an AMD 8970M or a high end nVidia GeForce, you're right. My parents' desktop has a better GPU than my laptop and theirs is 3 years old :(

Correction: you mean 880M.
Thanks for the info Pip, good predictions and comments. But for us who are not really into mobile gpus, it would be awesome if you could add in these bars a few of the desktop gpus, so we can have a familiar measuer of comparison. Cheers
