Fate/Zero blog series (part 4)

<< PART 3

Hi there, this is the final part of Fate/Zero anime review, so let's get down to it shall we?

MUSIC

[I'VE UPLOADED THE OPENING/ENDING SONGS TO MEDIAFIRE SINCE YOUTUBE SUCKS AND MUTED MOST OF THE ORIGINAL ANIMATED THEMES AND THE ONES YOU CAN FIND ON YOUTUBE HAS BEEN ALTERED (PITCH, TEMPO) TO AVOID COPYRIGHT. TO WATCH THEM, CLICK ON THE NAME OF THE SONG I LISTED]

The music used for the opening intros and ending themes in Fate/Zero are amazing to say the least. The studio has chosen appropriate songs that fit the theme of the anime. It was said by fans of the series that these songs gave them eargasm, the animation was top notch and I fully agree with them!

What's better than an orgasm? Eyegasm followed by eargasm of course!

The first opening song is Oath Sign (by LiSA). This is my top favourite Japanese pop song at the moment: very catchy tune, nice vocals and the background instrumental part is phenomenal. The animation is very attractive, flashy and is in nearly perfect sync with the sound, the introduction of the contestants of the battle over Holy Grail is incredible and it portrays the fighting style/attitude of everyone important. (I just found a pretty good English cover of the song HERE)

The first ending song is Memoria (by Aoi Eir). While the first opening theme gives introductions to the Masters, this first ending gives hints and back story of the Servants. There are some well known historical figures in this theme, while others are not so easily recognisable, this made me interested and intrigued to find the Servants' real identities. This was Aoi Eir's first song and it gave me a shock. Her voice is so clear and even though the melody was kind of "predictable" (I don't know the real word to describe this haha), but when the notes that I predicted would come up were hit perfectly by her voice, it was wonderful.

The second opening theme song is To The Beginning (by Kalafina). The first time I've seen this opening, I was disappointed due to the lack of animation and Oath Sign was a better song in my opinion. However after a few episodes, this song started to grow on me and I realised that it's pretty good. The song starts with some kind of Latin chant before diving into an energetic violin and drum intro. The drum-work is subtle, but effective, keeping the song upbeat and giving it a pop feel. And the voices, oh man, angelic. The three singers have different tones when combined together create perfect harmonious rhythm. Later I found out that this song was composed by the same person (Yuki Kajiura) who did all of the Fate/Zero's OSTs (Original Sound Tracks), so it all makes sense. The animation does a good job of foreshadowing some tragedy down the road, and pretty much gives you an idea on how the series might end. I really liked the motorbike riding into the horizon scene, such beauty, so much goosebumps, wow (sorry couldn't resist haha!)

If you thought a wild doge would not appear on GameDebate, you have been deceived! :p

The second ending theme song is Sora wa Takaku Kaze wa Utau [translation: Up in the sky the wind sings] (by Luna Haruna). This slow tempo ballad describes about a person who has lived a life of being in sorrow and full of pain, until she found someone who touched her incomplete heart. And now in love with this person together they can find happiness and joy while the sky is high and the wind sings. The song's sweet lyrics go well with the animation which shows the memories of Kiritsugu and Irisviel with their daughter. However the melody has that melancholy feel to it, and viewers can't stop feeling sorry for the couple due to their tragic fates.

Such a happy couple :'(

SOUNDTRACKS

All soundtracks present in the show were composed by Yuki Kajiura (dubbed the Hans Zimmer of Japan), and check out all the anime that featured her music! There are some well known anime that she composed OST for (Sword Art Online, Tsubasa Chronicle, Noir, etc.) so if you've seen those ones, you know you would love the OSTs of Fate/Zero.

From foreboding and ominous pieces for the mysterious moments, epic orchestral scores for the action, and quiet piano tunes for the emotional character moments, Fate/Zero has music for everything and knows how to incorporate it. In the show, the music was inserted at the right moments, and they utilised the oldest trick in the book: insert orchestra/choir song to any fight, it would become epic and it worked! All the serious encounters have the best of battle songs given to them, while the emotional scenes have music that could make you cry. The following OSTs are my favourites:

Let The Stars Fall Down

This song gave me all the chills the first time I heard it and excited me for the battles to come. It has a sense of urgency from the violins, then with the chorus.

Rule The Battlefield

This song has the same melody as another song used in Sword Art Online called "Swordland" (also composed by Yuki Kajura). However "Rule The Battlefield" sounds so much more majestic. This theme fits Rider really well, and was used mostly when he's on screen.

Tragedy And Fate

And then there are sad and tragic themes like "Tragedy And Fate" which would represent Fate/Zero. There are also 2 derivatives of this theme played on piano used in the show: "Grief" and "Painful", listening to these songs would make you cry like a baby after watching the series.

Here are my final ratings for the sound department:

Music: 8/10

Soundtrack: 9/10

So that's it guys, it really was a joy to write these blogs. Hope you guys enjoyed it as well. I'm still unsure about the character analysis blog series I announced earlier, so if you liked my seriously bad writing style, vote below:

But can she swing a Type 15 long-sword…? From what I remember, Saber actually is supposed to have a manly build…

Well supposedly. But in the Fate/Stay Night anime (by Deen studio), when Saber took a bath and Shirou walked in on her, she said she didn't want him to see her muscular body, yet if you pause the scene (I did >.>), there was no muscle, only white flesh XD <br />Then the second time Shirou walked in on her (I swear he did it on purpose haha), Saber was standing naked in front of Shirou, and still no muscle to be seen, maybe muscular for a female, not body builders' kind of muscles.

Oh and in Fate/Zero ending 1, Saber was seen standing with her knights, her height was only up to their chest. So supposedly the knights were 1.8m high, then she must have been 1.5-1.6m, and she looks tiny compared to them (even though they were lean, not muscular)

Saber's height is like 5 feet or so which is 1.5m and keep in mind that people back then were much shorter… Oh and is that even official art work AssassinKID…?

I don't think so. I just watched the play-through of Fate route and didn't see that pic. But as a knight I think she should at least look like that, I mean the armour and the sword are not light, must be at least 8-12kg

It looks like mostly platemail with a secondary leather padding with thick tertiary cotton weave below… 15 kg is the lightest estimate…

True, that's why I prefer Saber in Zero where she was covered up. It was illogical for Saber to have no muscle like illustrated in Stay Night.

Death Note is ranked really high in my book, definitely one of the best thriller series.
