Failure is Always an Option
Written by: JRschro - 09:26 Apr-10-2014

Every gamer out there has thrown a controller or mouse across the room while screaming obscenities that would cause a hooker to blush. Now you go to any person with a PHD in Psychiatry and they'll tell you that is textbook behavior of aggression and anger. What is causing this, is it what the mainstream media and every over-protective mother are always complaining about, you know "violence in video games" or is it the fact we just had a failure?

Now I don't know a single gamer who thinks it is the violence in video games (if you do then by all means scream at me in the discussion area but try and keep it civil you violence feed gamer you ^_^) and if you're like me you have gotten pretty peeved at some fairly tame games...Crash Bandicoot I'm looking at you... yet all we hear about is its violence's fault, you know not the fact we just fell into a bottomless pit for the 3rd time because that FUPING CONTROLLER LAGGED IM TELLING YOU!!!! Sorry... repressed childhood memories.. anyways where were we? oh right, So as any gamer will tell you anger, aggression, Violence... all come from the fact we have failed not that we are given subliminal messages but that our human nature is kicking in. We don't like failing whether its dying on the battlefield thanks to a camping 9 year old and possibly his father, or not getting that job you applied for.

The nice thing is that the truth is peeking its head out thanks to some research done by Oxford University... wait it took college research and funds to convince people that having our ego hurt from failure increases our hostile behavior? Do people not live in the same world i do? http://www.rochester.edu/news/show.php?id=8712

Once. Only once. I was playing CS:GO and I was on a very nice killstreak. And then suddenly, my internet broke. I went mad and ran raging out of the room and tripped over something (shoes, probably). It was me who had flown without wings that day.

I vote for '0'. I don't get mad because I failed at a game or anything. I don't get mad easily at all, but certainly games won't get me that far :)

I havent reacted out much from failure in my life. Instead I suppress it and keep it hidden until one day it became clinical depression that still prevails. Game stuff is pretty basic and I wouldnt label it as actual failure, but any sort of failure or disappointments in life stuff should be handled with care. This is where friends and family are found to be useful :P

This is very true, one must learn how to cope with failure and learn from it if they ever want to succeed.

What if i said getting into a game is like living another life. A life away from the real deal you face everyday, a life where anything is possible and is designed so that you are always the winner. If you die then simply reload.. We react to many everyday things the same, in public we maintain self control when something goes wrong so we dont seem like a raging lunatics, although we do rage, swea

swear, curse and have an impulse to possibly break something, (ever wondered why you get rough with objects in public when your mad, thats your self control stopping you looking like an idiot infront of that gf/bf). Same applies to games, when we lose, we lose that control and cos we are in a comfortable environment we let go, not worrying what other people may think. However, i believe the proble

problem is not the game or how life deals us cards, but rather coping mechanisms (the way your mind has learnt to deal with situations like death, frustration, anger, disappointment ect.), and because of the time/place/whats going on for you/emotions and many other aspects will reflect on your interaction in games and how you play and react, yes like you would in life. However this noes not apply

Dont be sorry that was very insightful. I know exactly what you are talking about, i think of many things like that and usually start thinking about the matrix and how we are living a life within a life.. btw I have nearly been that kid who went psycho on a school, I know what its like to have those thoughts and its not pretty. I have been in institution after institution learning coping skills and what i feel like now is being studied.. sorry if i seem incoherent.. its 4 am here.

Hey i know exactly how you feel, i was an addict for 5 years with a very small emotional understanding, no coping skills and was very impulsive and really angry, naming just some. I only started learning and developing then i went into treatment and saw a therapist. My life used to be in my gaming cos thats the only place i was a winner, and when i lost it was ugly.
