Game development help

So I'm trying to get into game development and need some help regarding the engine and computer.

First of all i'll give a brief outline on the type of game we're (my friend and I) are making.

  • Open world Action/Adventure RPG
  • 4x the size of Skyrim
  • No outer cell loading screens (like in Dishonored)
  • Advanced enemy AI
  • Dynamic battles
  • Graphics compared to Kingdom Hearts on the PS2
  • Randomly spawned enemies
  • NPC voices using a 3rd party programme
  • Battle system similar to Souls series boss battles (enclosed area)
  • A 100 hr campaign

I know the points are vague but they're all i can give without "leaking" anything.

So my question is that what is the best engine out there that can do all of this (it's a 3rd person game btw) and the computer(s) we'll need to make it.

I would also like a GPU suggestion for my current build so that we can get started.

You dont need to upgrade your GPU for Gfx like PS 2 and you would need to download 3ds max student edition. Tazz can explain better about game development.

No I mean if you have the money then sort of but here no need for all you need is a creative mind and 3ds max and cry to make anything . By the way you still havent answered if you are going to pay for it or want it free.

first , get a new monitor . now about the gpu id recommend a nvidia card since they are better in this kind of stuff . also you can do some physx effects and stuff .

I also thought about physx at first but then it would have been hard to optimize the game for AMD users so we're not using physx. In terms of monitors I'm currently using my TV as i don't have money for new monitor but i could probable get a decent second-hand 1080p monitor at a good price.

also I'd recommend you to use either Unreal engine 2 or 3, Heroes engine(EA made star wars the old republic on it) or unity. :)

Right now I will suggest Unreal Engine 4. It has a great character creator too. And amazing explosions are particle effects.

I would have suggested Cryengine but now its turned into subscription based and so has unreal so if he has coding experience unreal would be a better starting point but for noobs like me cry is better. A Ques to shah are you going to pay for it or do you want free engine?

We would prefer a free engine but UE4 is about $20/mo right? It's quite cheap so we'll probably get that but my major concern is how well it can handle the enemy AI?

Get the free version of cryengine 3.5.8 its good if you are going to release for free.

I talked to a friend using CryEngine for a TPS game and he said it wasnt working well. One of the reasons I suggested UE 4 for. UEs are mostly very customisable in this regard.

The problem with our game is that we're going to have to go through a certain company to avoid getting sued (whether the game is ftp or not). Can cryengine make 3rd person games? I still want to know what kind of computer we'll need for long term development.

Yep it can make 3rd person and if you are making it free then no probs and aint copying models and the comp you have is perfect as it has 16 GB and i7 and since graphics arent going to be that advanced 7790 is just fine
