New rig update! 980Ti watercooled!
Written by: GreedyMuffin - 23:22 Dec-22-2014
  1. Heey!
  2. Hello! My name is Christian and i woud like to share my rig history and future upgrades, Photos will come sooner or later, Be patient :) This is just blog made for fun really, since i wanted to share it with you guys at GD.

A Thank you!

I have gotten some awesome hardware from the same guys, a 7970 Dccu, a Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb, a unopened 230T case from Corsair, a H110, AX1500I, Define R5, 2x4Gb ballistix led ram, Cm G500, HX 650,  and a good deal on a 780Ti from Evga. (Which died and i earned enough for a 980, adding a little more and i`ll get myself a 980Ti) And a Big Thank You to Tacese who was so kind of selling me his old I7 860 and Gigabyte motherboard :))

My main job was dealing with hardware over there. Getting up rack(s), installing newer drivers, moving hardware, find the best performance to power consumption and ``modding a bit on the cases to get better airflow. One rig had a 3930K, Msi big bang II and 4x 780ti. :O

Work2: I was there again in september, only two days but it was extremely fub! Bulidng 980Ti rigs, and i earned enough to buy myself a 5960X. My 5820K was defective and i got a refund and bought a third 980.

My next upgrade woud be a new monitor, as i got a Philips 27inch 1080P 60Hz 1ms IPS screen, it has good colors, but i really want 144Hz, just haft to find the one^^

I got myself a ASUS ROG SWIFT, and a Second 980 G1, getting those soon, talking about a week or two :D
The next upgrade would be maybe gpu blocks to the cards, but its not worth it IMO, as they will Oc 100Mhz higher only, damn Maxwell, to good on air ^^

UPDATE! Got them blocks, and monitor, using the three 980s dedicated to folding@home, so now i`ll sell the blocks and get a 980Ti under water.

Update2: 5960X arrived! Getting it under water and hoping for a 4.5Ghz-ish overclock for daily use. (Check(Y)

Update3: New Gpu?

A folding friend of mine (War) asked me if i wanted a 980Ti for a decent price. I said yes and he will check trough all his 12 cards or so and sell me the one with the highest Asiq. Then i will get a waterblock for it and add it to my loop. Hopefully my rad will deal with it okay.

I save 250USD when buying used instead of getting a brand spanking new 980Ti Classy, and the money i save will be used on a waterblock from EK w/ backplate, making me get a better card in the end. 50¤C helps versus 70-80¤C when overclocking as first trottletemp with maxwell happends around low 70¤C. And combine that with a good Asiq card (80% if i`m lucky) He has tested 4 cards already, 60, 65, 65 and 70%, so worst case i get a 70% card ^^

This blog is not finished, and i am a bad writer, so excuse me^!^

hmm perhaps you might start searching for bigger PC case? Define R5 is not that big inside to have enough air especially with limited fan and radiator mounts :)

Yeah, i haft to mount the rad fans outside the case on the top, to not block airflow to the Vrms on my mobo.

But do you have a recommendation?

I was thinking 900D or something, but 300Eur for a case is to much, if it were a SSD or something, that wouldent be that bad, but for a case... :P

Corsair 780T looks pretty cool, CoolerMaster HAF series, Corsair 750D maybe, Thermaltake Core V71 my favourite, NZXT H630 looks more similar to Define R5, Corsair Carbide Air 540 is big cube - particularly interesting for liquid setup, Fractal Design Define XL worth checking too, NZXT H440 has no optical drive so up to triple-fan rad can be mounted in front and Razer Design looks badass, Fractal Design ARC XL isn't bad either...

Bro get yourself an ROG swift monitor. I know it is expensive, but if you have the money it is by far the best gaming monitor out there!

Your monitor is a TN panel and not IPS. Only TN can get 1m response time. IPS at best can get 4m. You've not experienced IPS with this monitor :p

It's entirely up to you. I'd rather a higher resolution than higher refresh rate. Just got this

Unless you think that 60Hz is sluggish, then 120-144 is most likely a good upgrade then.

Also, the remainder of the build with the x99 is great. Good luck getting it to 4.8Ghz. that'll be an impressive feat. Already on 4.6 Ghz is a great accomplishment.

Got it to 4.75Ghz easy ;)

Also, i have never checked my screen, thought it was IPS due very good colors :P^^

My build is finished, but miss some fans and etc, can still post a picture or two ig you guys want it :)

Yeah, i will def. get a 144Hz G-synch Screen, 1080P :)

Running for 24/7 Oc 4.625Ghz 1.270V, Cache 4.5Ghz 1.25V

Got it running on 4.75Ghz 1.325V , cache same,

lowest i`ve tried 4.5Ghz 1.22V, Cache the same,

I guess i can git 4.85Ghz at 1.4V, but that`s hot :P Esp. when all my fans is on low settings, quiet :D

If you got the money go for the ROG Swift from Asus. You cant go wrong with it. 1440p, 144Hz, 27 inch, 1ms, G-sync, VESA mount, very small bezel. Best gaming monitor in the market. Period.I hope your build goes well bro!

The Swift cost about 1150$ here in Norway, i think that is a bit to expensive for a TN screen, i know several people who have that screen, one running 5960X and 3-way 980`s.

Thank you! Watercooling is coming today, so i will use my christmas on that^^

Tzzsmk@ Yeah, 4K, 1ms screen, awesome :D But i am afraid i dont have the horsepower to power up that monitor :/ Maybe a nice 1440P screen (Not Swift) to around the same price, that monitor cost about 550Eur here :)

and it's still TN which I personally wouldn't buy, being totally happy with 1440p IPS 27" :)

if you want 144 hz you're gonna have to sacrifice color quality for fps. i made that sacrifice.

Yeah, i know, but the one is swift, but at 1150$, or 850Eur (around there) its expensive, to expensive.

If you got any tips on a monitor around 500$ (since prices in norway is about 25% more, i haft to find a cheap one in the US ^^)
