What did we do wrong in gaming?

Hello dear reader and thank you for taking your time to read this article. As you may notice from the title I am going to talk about what is wrong in modern gaming and more particular the FPS genre.

The problem with modern FPS is that most of them are extremely easy (even on the highest difficulty) and linear. I have been asking myself why is it that way for so many years until I found a video of Total biscuit called

As he explains in the video the problem is not the game itself but the level design. In older fps games like Doom, Quake, Heretic, Hexen, Duke Nukem etc you didn't have have life regen or ammo everywhere on the map that practically just transformed FPS games into running and gunning. The player is not punished anymore for what they do in an encounter. For example in Doom if you were low on health after a battle you had to explore the map in order to replenish it but the problem is that other monsters could easily kill you. So if you had 1 hp left after some serious ownage you were pretty much fucked if you didn't find any health kits near you. You also had to find ammo for your big guns (like the classical rocket launcher or BFG) which, lets be honest, gave you a huge firepower against serious mobs and were NECESSARY in order to survive the level or not spending hours trying to finish it with your fists or pistol. And this was on the NORMAL DIFFICULTY not hard or extreme or whatever new games have. In modern times if you don't play the game on the hardest difficulty its just too easy... there is no challenge at all... If you ever played Doom 2 on nightmare difficulty then you know what a hardcore FPS is. On nightmare you have fewer ammo, fewer health regen from health packs (if I remember correctly), mobs had bigger damage and health but the most terrifying part was the fact that monsters came back to life after a few seconds after you killed them. Imagine spending some time killing a boss and then he just comes back to life after 5 seconds... not so easy now isn't it? In order to complete the game you had to know every secret, every shortcut, every mob position otherwise you didn't stand a chance. You had to know how to manage resources: health and ammo unlike today where you can just swap weapons and just hide behind a corner for a few seconds and you're back to normal... that just sucks really bad! Back then you had to die a lot of times till you found a way to complete the level which was like a maze. Some paths would lead you to some nasty encounters, some would give you rewards. The only problem was that you didn't know where to go exactly because there were no huge arrows on your screen pointing to the exact position where you need to go. NO! Back then you had to spend sometimes hours in one level till you found the damned blue key in order to open a damned door so you could finish the damn level while you were fighting damned monsters and trying to restrain yourself from screaming in the house What the fuck do I need to do? There were no walkthroughs back then to show you where to go and sometimes it was extremely painful to just waste hours or days on a level and just restarting over and over again... but you know what? After all those tears wasted in that game, all your keyboards broken during it came an immense feeling of satisfaction when you found the door to the next level. That's what games meant back then: fun and challenge while now it's just money!

For all those of you who didn't play the classics of FPS I am sorry because you missed the golden age of gaming. I hope one day they will stop thinking about money when they make a game and just focus on making it better and challenging! Thank you for reading this article

Multiplayer sucks!!!
I much prefer even BAD AI to 10x times worse human players, that are much more brain-dead than even the ****est of AI.... And then you give me good and hard AI an amazing plot, story and characters, a lot of content, the feeling of achievement and entertainment, a lot of depth and replay value and I'm in heaven or should I say hell, hell is much more fun and entertaining than heaven.
Also the game MUST be realy, really, really, (infinite times) really punishing, otherwise forget it, balls to the wall and speed run it...

I like multiplayer games. You probably didn't find the right one. There are very few competitive fps out there while the rest just suck really bad...

Played them all, MOBA(LoL, Smite, Dota, CS:GO and few more), FTP(a lot), Shooters(bf, cod, arma, cs:go, unreal, tf2, killing floor, etc etc) , Strategies(blizzard RTS, C&C, Rise of Nations, Age of mythology, Age of empires, any RTS you think of etc, etc), Racing(NFS, Dirt, Grid, Gass Guzzlers, just about any MP racer that's not uber arcady), hack and slash(a lot)

I find players terrible in sence of skills and brain... AI is better 95% of the time.
I wish devs returned to the singleplayer only games. :/

Try playing CS:GO at high ranks and against teams and you will see it's not that easy. The same can be said about Tf2. If you play Tf2 on valve servers there are only noobs so if you want a challenge you go tf2lobby.com or tf2center.com and you play there. Also try Quake Live and go play in Tier 4. There a lot of bad players in online games that is true but there are many who will kick your ass really bad...
