Hello everyone,
since my workstation rig is finally complete (with latest upgrade from GTX770 to GTX980Ti and Roccat Ryos MK Glow mechanical backlit keyboard), I decided to finalize the desk - completely redo the cable management by making custom cable manger - see images for results! :)
I have really LOTS of cables (power+audio to each speaker box, power+video+usb to monitor, usb to keyboard, usb to mouse, power to lamp, power to clocks, ethernet for internet..).
I decided to get regular plastic 6"x4" manger (which is usually used in switchboard cabinets for cable distributions), mounted to the table (which actually is a beautiful sturdy door of an old wardrobe, with bolted height-adjustable legs) using aluminimum L profile, so the manger is slightly under desk level, making a really clean look.
Should I say the manger cover is removable, so it's always possible to add/replace cables there.
If anyone curious how I managed to replace logon screen image, I use a little tool called "Win7LogonBackgroundChanger" ;)
UPDATE - I put some leftover acoustic foam I had - it really makes difference in sound balance! ;)
I guess now it's complete :3
...oh and few people asked me about my PC case, if it's on the floor or so, here ya go ;)
just for reference, board dimensions are about 57x30cm
Aand so that's all for now, I hope you like the pics, feel free to show your desk as well!
Do you think is desk cable management important? Don't hesitate to leave comment below :)

Why you are not using windows 7 ultimate why professional??
PC Specs
I used to run Win7 Ultimate, but I realized I don't need the additional pile of crap which bloats the Ultimate version :D
PC Specs
That chocolate wall tho... nom nom nom.
PC Specs
haha, yummy 10cm chocolate tiles ;))
PC Specs
Darn, how can I miss chocolate? :D Distracted by 'blue' probably :)
PC Specs
Btw: while using TuneUp Utilities (now: AVG PC TuneUp...), I used to download Windows themes and also change my boot screen and logon image. Nice stuff, including your background image. I could check that tool. Thanks!
PC Specs
I gave up changing themes when they started messing certain softwares, only thing I have changed now is logon wallpaper and start menu icon (I have this right now;)
PC Specs
Okay...
Wow, that start menu icon reminds me of NFS :P Also changed the default Windows sound scheme to an NFS scheme with engine sounds and such? ;D
PC Specs
yup it is NFS-themed icon :)))
I have windows sounds disabled, because I work a lot around audio, ya know ;)
PC Specs
You wouldn't want a critical error sound while recording, huh? ;)
PC Specs
I don't want ANY sound by Microsoft, I'm done with them xD
PC Specs
Not completely, but at least I'm done with Windows Updates...As long as you stay away from rotten Apple, I'm fine :D
PC Specs
Even though I really like your style and to keep my room tidy, I don't have a cable duct to hold the cables together. Wireless products and not as many cables as you have, but I could wish me one ;)
Cable management is important, because you're actually wasting space without + it's easier to clean the floor etc. :D Of course it's a different matter when we're talking about cable management in one's computer tower or for ex. when it's about a network infrastructure ^^
PS I'm glad you finally bought that keyboard; what did finally convince you it's the one for you? :)
PC Specs
indeed indeed, network infrastructure must be a mess to be secure ;)))
about the keyboard, I definitely needed czech layout keys, and when I found out it has huge unremovable wrist pad, I simply had to get it - to be honest it's not as huge as everyone says, and it's just perfect for person like me who plays racing games on arrow keys with both hands :D :D
PC Specs
Convinced! And who wants overloaded wrists while racing? :) Smooth and cool wrists = smooth and cool racing :D
PC Specs
on the other hand I realized I cannot use elevated "bump" on mousepad, because it's just against my own "musician" mouse grip ;))
PC Specs
Hmmm, I know my 'right brain' can be overactive as well, but I couldn't really 'compile your code' either now. You mean, your hand is going another direction that way?
PC Specs
yea, different angle, affecting veins and muscles fatigue negatively :|
PC Specs
Okay, so the mousepad implementation, to prevent things like RSI, is actuall counterproductive for you, a musician? Because you don't train your hands and wrists enough, being very stiff on a mousepad... :/
Ever tried a vertical mouse btw? It feels so weird :D
PC Specs
nno, actually I have so trained fingers and wrists (from both keyboard and drums) that I actually don't need any additional wrist support which just elevates my hand too much above the mouse :D
I use some sort of fingertip grip but with full accurate control and also sometimes resting the middle-right part of the hand palm :)
PC Specs
I think it all makes sense now. My fingers and wrists are well trained due to my cross hybrid bike position :D
PC Specs
my desk is also really clean , I don't have that much stuff on , but it looks really neat. There are only cables behind it , I like it
Sneaky beaky edit: Is that W10? Thought you hated it :O
PC Specs
haha nope, it's Windows 7 Professional with Windows 10 logon screen background :D :D (the only thing I really like about Windows 10)
PC Specs
Very good cable management. :D
PC Specs
because you don't see the mess on the floor xD
PC Specs
Looking nice and clean ;)
Your PC itself is on the floor i take?
This is my desk atm (cable at the rightcorner is for charging my phone). My desk has a cable manager right under it, easy to run or attach cables trough that. That also means i don't have a single cable laying on the ground expect one from the wallsocket, easy to clean the floor that way :D
So yes i agree cable managment on your desk is just as important as inside your PC ;)
*Igrnore the walls, that was made by my dad when I was 6, to lazy to hang other wallpaper :P
PC Specs
It's good Mark ... ;)
PC Specs
nno, PC ain't on the floor, once I get home I'll take a pic, it's too complicated to explain :))
cool desk you gotta there, no mouse pad for such glossy desk surface ??
haha walls are fine,
me, I'm seriously thinking about some sound-dampening strip to put behind the speakers and monitor, those bassy frequencies are cool but loud when bouncing back off the walls xD
PC Specs
heya, I updated the blog, you can see how's the PC sitting ;))
PC Specs
what did ya under the boxes? i got my Magnat 200er monitors on my desk and thinking about dimming the vibes
PC Specs
I think it's called felt in english, it's like a very sturdy carpet,
first I was thinking about foam or other spongle-like material, but this one does better job imo :)
on the other hand, I still can feel the vibes of deep basses, going from speakers through table down the floor back through my chair into me xD
PC Specs
when i got them thay made terrible bass because to far away from the wall, now its much better on the table almost no vibes like when they were on the ground
should had realized its Felt :D "Filz" in germany
PC Specs
heh yup, "filc" in czech :D
PC Specs
if my desk would not be a mess that takes years to make it look like yours id post pics, guess some day there will be change
PC Specs
im in love.
PC Specs
hahaaa :D
PC Specs
Great cable managment.
I've got a sailor knot from my cables, good luck to me ever trasfering one without the rest :D
PC Specs
haha I know that feel, actually there's quite a mess on the floor, but that's not seen xD
PC Specs
Nice, good luck putting them back in when there are problems ;)
PC Specs
haha yea xD
actually it's quite simple to remove the top cover, just slide it to the side :))
PC Specs
should have clean dust off monitor before taking pics :P
PC Specs
dang I guess I should, and from speakers too xD
PC Specs
Never question a man's dust collection :D
PC Specs
nah he's right, I was too lazy to grab a dustcloth, as always xD
PC Specs
I find the cable manager the most impressive part of this setup. :)
PC Specs
haha thx :D
PC Specs
Getting a 980 !AMP soon, With a waterblock ofcourse!
(saves moe 250USD - waterblock compared to a New one, and this got some high Asiq Levels. 84.3% so the Choice was easy ^^)
How does it play at 1440P?
PC Specs
getting 980 or 980Ti ? btw GPU-Z says my card ASIC is 70.5%, but who the fckin cares haha xD
anyway, my 980Ti (OCed to 1450MHz) does perfect job at 1440p, keeps 60fps-ish almost all the time at tweaked max settings (without harworks) in The Witcher III for ex.,
and less demanding games don't even arouse the card to boost clocks beyond stock 1190Mhz :D
PC Specs
Higher Asiq, better overclocking chip ^^
980Ti ofcourse ^^
250USD cheaper than a New 980Ti Classy, for that Money i will buy myself a waterblock and a backplate ^^
Good to hear, wont be going sli anytime soon ^^
PC Specs
I don't like Zotac, so at least I won't be jealous xD fingers crossed for the watercooling, you should push the chip at least 100Mhz higher than me (I got it beyond 1500Mhz without any voltage adjustments, but Witcher III with mods started showing artifacts) :D
PC Specs
Hoping for 1600Mhz With custom bios ^^
Well, you might not but it
s a refrence PCB so it dosen
t matter, and they dont have a sticker on their Cards ^^So they can`t find ut if i have installed a waterblock ^^
PC Specs
DAMN! That system though.
I bet those bump, any advice on where to order some sound like that???
I have a standard Logitech 5.1 setup. I just use it for 2.1 because I don't have the room correction for 5.1.
Mer
NIce job on cablemanagement btw.
I'm lazy as hell and just have everything run behind the desk. xD
PC Specs
I got those Eris E8's in local store :D :D
I can assure ya those provide more natural sound than any 5.1 or 7.1 setup I ever heard :))
you and lazy? no way xD well, maybe you could drill a big hole in the desk and throw all cables into it? :D
PC Specs
Glass desk :p
PC Specs
ah uh...for real?
I can only guess my monitor with those speakers weighs around 30kg, so couldn't really understand who would have glass table xD
PC Specs
I trust the glass, however the frame I do not.
Cheap department store quality as usual. My bedroom doesn't allow much space for a desk so. This is sufficient and I like the look of seeing my keyboard glowing through the desk. :) !
:D
PC Specs
Very nice. Cable management is important. Inside your pc case good cable management looks nice and it means you have better airflow through the case. But desk cable management is important as well because it makes unpluging things and switching them around a lot easier.
PC Specs
I wouldn't say it's easier to switch cables,
but it definitely is easier to clean up the desk, since the cables don't catch the dust as much and the flat manger cover is really easy to clean :)
PC Specs
Nice Tazz :D
Windows 10 Wallpaper on Windows 7 At least you like something in Windows 10 lol :P
PC Specs
yes, that's probably the only thing haha xD
PC Specs
+1 Shah. BTW great (desk) cable management Tazz. I can't even imagine doing this sort of stuff. Requires a lot of patience xD
PC Specs
to be honest, mounting the manger to the table required assistance of my father and brother, and quite a bit manual dexterity :D
then, doing the cables was fairly easy I'd say :))
