Should i upgrade to an RTX 2080 ?
Written by: IlluminatiEyes - 14:17 Mar-22-2019

Pretty much the tittle im looking for a sweet spot card for 1440p 144Hz gameplay, and i think an RTX 2080 is the right pick. However in my country this card retails at around 1000 dollars for the STRIX model some are cheaper some are more expensive. Do you have an RTX 2080 and would you recommend an upgrade or should i wait too see what NAVI brings from AMD ?

Wait for 7nm GPUs regardless of AMD or Nvidia ones, they will be much cheaper and better and power efficient(unless AMD and Nvidia hold out on us on purpose and overprice them).

That does sound like a smart move and seeing as how i wont have the money for the card until october ill see what AMD brings. If they can offer rtx 2080 performance or similar for 500 dollars or so then i will go with AMD.

I doubt Navi will be faster than a 2080, thats already the radeon VII level…
btw there are even higher clocked models than the STRIX

Radeon VII is so expensive due to HBM2 and the interposer(320$ +100$), along with inflated die size by about 50% due to tons of Fp16 and Fp64 cores(useless for gaming).
If Vega 2/Radeon VII was GDDR6 and had 50% smaller die size with less Fp16 and Fp64 cores it would have cost 300$ at most.

yes the ZOTAC model is higher clocked (a whole 10 Mhz), however i have an ROG motherboard so might as well get the same brand for the gpu aswell. And the STRIX is a decent overclocker with a great cooler/fans on it aswell.

Right, I know that the Strix cards are generally the best, and also the most expensive. If it's price is fine for you then by all means get it

Actually the AOURUS model is the most expensive at 1000 euros and the strix is 970 euros. Ideally i wouldnt wanna pay this much so hopefully prices drop :=)
