A realistic perspective on Navi
Written by: TClawWolf - 03:40 May-21-2019

With the hype train blowing up, alot of people are setting themselves up for a letdown.... Navi isn't going to be the most amazing thing ever, what we need is price/performance in the price ranges where most people are buying GPUs, which would be the mainstream..... and this is what most of the more believable leaks have hinted at....... yet you have some who just think you're going to be able to buy an RTX 2080 TI level card for $300, and yeah.... sorry, that's not happening ANY time soon!

aaand again the same bs arguement that 6GB VRAm is not enough… lol ppl don't seem to understand the diff. btw allocated memory and memory that is actually being used (i.e needed) I hardly get beyond 4-5GB of VRAM usage in any game…
Not like Nvidia would let their cards be suddenly rendered useless due to VRAM bottleneck, when most game start with an Nvidia logo…

I don't think it's really that bad of an argument when we're talking about future titles and resolutions of 1440P+ with maxed details and texture packs…. which a 2060 should be capable of considering its price point and its more or less 1070 TI level of performance….. while I agree that 6GB is more than enough for those of us with 1060s, 480s/580s, etc, when you're bumping up to the performance level of the 2060, you're going to expect a bit more.

I remember not very long ago at all when people said that 4 CPU threads is all ya need for gaming……. suddenly those of us with 4 thread CPUs are finding our rigs struggling in some of the latest games because our CPUs don't cut it anymore, the change was pretty quick too, it wasn't maybe more than a year ago when 4 threads actually WAS just fine for the overwhelming majority of games.

the 4c/4th problem is due to the high core/th count on ryzens, intel had to up their core count and the high core count cpus became popular very fast.

AMD is pushing oversized VRAM/Bandwith as a mean to undermine Nvidia and because their gpus require higher bandwith, but the radeon 7 proved that it can't take any real advantage of the overexaggerated video memory/bandwith in games

by the time the 2060 reaches the vram limit on 1440P it won't be playable anyway and ppl will need to drop to 1080p where 6gb again should be enough.
btw I am sure the developers are aware that most ppl have 6GB or less VRAM on their cards, it would make no sense to optimes games in such a way to use need more than 6gb.

I can promise you that already there are games in which 6GB is a limiting factor with max details and all the bells and whistles, they're not super common , but they do exist….. Another thing you're failing to take into consideration is the modding community and texture packs…..Nvidia artificially limited the amount of VRAM on the 2060 so that people would have a reason to buy the 2070, which is another great point made in the video.

btw the gtx980 can still match the 1060 even in 4k even though it has only 4gb vram

Throw in some higher res textures, and I absolutly promise you that will not be the case. There are even instances at 1080P in which 4GB cards start to fall off a little, again, it's not common, but it is a thing.

6GB GPU VRAM even at 1440p will be fine for the next 3 years… same goes for 4 core CPU's.

Polaris delivered though, whereas in my opinion, Vega fell kinda short….. Polaris atleast provided an extremely compelling price/performance vs Nvidia, and aside from the crypto-currency boon which flung prices up, they beat them pretty badly on that front. Navi needs to be another Polaris, and I think that's what they're aiming for.
