Awesome Comparison! I was beginning to second guess my decision of buying an i7 9700k as I've heard many people telling me that it's a waste of money compared to the i5 and it's only 4-10 fps better.

with a 2060S/1080ish its pretty pointless only the 2080ti will show a moderate 5-10fps difference at 5Ghz ofc. In CPU intensive games there can be a slightly bigger difference but these are extremely rare usually consisting of ubisoft games of course so if you play a lot of those the i7 makes sense. oh and at 1080p ofc

The 2060S I have it's a custom variant from Gigabyte Aorus, so it's more close to a 2070 . Look up the comparison between the two and you will see they have near identical fps.

Also it's better to buy a better CPU as they don't tend to change as much as GPU and also with a GPU you can tweak the settings to achieve better fps…with the CPU you either run it or you don't most of the time.

i understand that my point is at 1440p and above everything moves to the GPU even something like a r5 1600 which can be 30-40% slower than an 5Ghz Intel Chip at(1080p) but at 1440p it performs within 5%. Look at 1440p benchmarks i agree for 1080 the CPU matters more if you want 240Hz or max fps then yeah

@Tforulez yeah with a 1080ti i was talking about the 2080ti. thats why unless you have a 2080ti spending more on the CPU wont do much but if you plan to upgrade the GPU than i agree as you can see if you move to the 2080ti https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/3421-intel-i7-9700k-review-benchmark-vs-8700k-and-more

but below that at 1440p you see theyre all within 10% performance so yeah depends on the resolution and game ofc they are all different there is no relative 10-15% or 30-40% as it heavily depends on the game and noone will test the 10000+ games to test all that out XD

in watchdogs 2 the 1080 just bottlenecks the i7 9700K, the i5 is still maxed out. btw the difference is huge, and bf is a perfect example. i remember with my previous i5 3570K (OC to 4.2ghz) i had awful drops in bf1 cause of cpu maxed out, when i switched to the r5 1600X i never reached 70% usage on the cpu and got a huge bump in performance. with my r7 3700X i still haven't seen over 40% usage.

i chose that pic to use it here in comparison bec it was the easyest one to make it again but with the i7, if you see the other pics here you can see that i5 is not maxed either most of the time while 1080 is so its my guess that gpu is the bottleneck all the time

Well that also depends on optimization of the game, but still you are sitting on the 90s percentiles which considering other tasks running its almost considerable as maxed. The specific case of wd2 shows a gpu bottleneck on both sides, while other pics show a cpu bottleneck (i5)

Is it a frame-rate limiter that's been set on or a Nvidia Control Panel VSync rate as 'half refresh rate' ?
