what do you guys think:
Should i get R9 280x or R9 290x?
i am gaming on 1080p 60hz (single monitor only), but are curious about if i need the extra power or not because i wont be purchasing any hardware until it has past 4-5 years...
btw. if you dont know, here is the rest of my recent built (ordered new motherboard and few other stuff) gaming Rig
- coolermaster haf xb
- i7 4770k
- 8gb (4x4) 1600 mhz ddr3 corsair vengeance memory
(i didnt buy this, i just got it from my previous rig (the guy who bought it didint want the extra 8 gb of ram (it was 16gb in total)))
- gainward gtx 460 gs
(a really good card, bought it as a temporary gpu while waiting for amd's new gen gpu's)
- XFX Pro series xxx-editon 850W semi modular 80+bronze PSU
- MSI Gaming g45 z87 1150 motherboard
(it is dead (i broke it while experimenting :P) and will be replaced (will be delivered at Monday?) with Asus Maximus VI formula 1150 haswell)
- Samsung 840 120Gb SSD
- Segeate Barracuda 1tb 7200 rpm 64mb cache.
and a Logitech g35 headset (if it matters at all :P)

Guys, latest news:
"AMD is handling R9 290X launch much in the same way NVIDIA handled the GTX TITAN, in that there won't be non-reference design cards in the foreseeable future, with the exception of cards with factory-fitted full-coverage water-blocks."
I am leaning towards r9 280x... cuz i like silent cards :baby-face-smiling:
PC Specs
MSI Radeon R9 280X GAMING 3G 3GB GDDR5 just saw on tigerdirect selling for 320$ so i believe the 290X should be less then 600$ since the MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 2G 2GB GDDR5 is sold out at a price of 220$
PC Specs
Bf4 r9 290x were sold for 729.99 or something. So i expect 3rd party non bf4 bundled card would go for 699 or 649. But noone knows it for real,we have to wait for a official announcement...
PC Specs
280x is actually a rename 7970 ghz edition but with a higher memory clock, which is more than enough for 1080p I'd go with that
PC Specs
280X is very cheap (well, relatively. It's still a lot of money), and the 290X should be able to beat the titan at "just" $600. It really depends on what you want to spend on it...
PC Specs
Man definetly if you want future proofing..get the R290X beacuse i guess money is not your issue and that card will beat the hell out of any game art 1080p..its THE BEST single card out there..
PC Specs
I have 3770K with GTX770, so if you're planning to get 4770K, then you should get according gfx card for it :Đ
PC Specs
pff....
PC Specs
i already own 4770k... just need to get a new gpu cuz i am now running a temporary solution...
PC Specs
SLIed GTX760 or GTX770 then ;)
PC Specs
xfire 280x sounds better :P
but thnx for your suggestion bro ;)
PC Specs
if you're going with SLI gtx 760, I'd go for the MSI gaming graphics, they're really quite and cool even in SLI
PC Specs
290x :D
PC Specs
I would get the 290x because 4k monitors are right around the corner, and those are going to require some serious horsepower, and it's a $500-$600 Titan, which is increadible. I know I'm getting a 290x.
PC Specs
Hey faceless whats the 290x? put me on im lost in the dark.
PC Specs
Yeah but 1080p is more than enough for gaming ^_^
PC Specs
Yeah, for now. I just want to future-proof my PC a bit, and the pixel density on a 4k display would make games look amazing. I just want to buy something now that would suit my needs, and would still be able to rock a 4k monitor when they become affordable...
PC Specs
i agree that 1080p is enough, but i when i played bf3 on 3 monitors (2xtitans) at my local computer store, it was so amazing to get vision of your far right and left sides, at least when you are flying a jet or chopper...
so i might consider 3 monitors next year or so..
PC Specs
Man what is 290x can someone please respond
PC Specs
The new AMD flagship graphics card that was announced, the R9 290x.
PC Specs
How much is it? it better top the 780
PC Specs
They didn't announce a price... Judging by the prices of the other cards they showed, it will probably be $500-$600, but I'm leaning closer to $600... Oh, and it supposed to come close to, or even beat, the Titan.
PC Specs
What is the 280x?
PC Specs
Go R9 290X for sure. It is much better than the R9 280x.
PC Specs
280x, no need to waste more money .
PC Specs
yeah but 290x is gonna be much more powerfull
PC Specs
btw. will 290x be enough if i am going to upgrade to 5760x1080p (3 monitors) in future? or do i need even more vram, like 6 or 8 gb instead of 4? or should i just put another 290x and xfire?
PC Specs
well you could put another 290x and it should great but one 290x would be enough for that res
PC Specs
290x is a dual gpu card i think , and putting another in will suffer from shuttering .
PC Specs
yes you need at least 6gb vram for 3 monitors .
PC Specs
r9 290x definetely, its gonna be a great card and you re gonna have a beast rig, good luck bro :)
PC Specs
thnx mate :)
PC Specs
r9 290x, that cpu deserves it
PC Specs
