Prices and hardware reviewed and updated: 24th Feb 2020

If you are wanting to buy a gaming computer to run Vampyr then this PC build review is aimed at putting together the correct hardware components for the cheapest price today to do just that. Making our build requirement, when speccing this computer, to find the sweetest price point for our hardware list that can deliver the best FPS with ultra settings selected, using 1080p monitor resolution. As new gaming components are released for PC we will continue to review prices here each day and consider swapping in and out better components.

Today we find Vampyr is not in our top demanding games list and currently not figuring in our more popular games lists of today. It also falls in under the RPG game genre types, which itself can influence some of our choices of hardware today, to make sure we better meet the hardware needs of the game. This sort of information will help us build a fuller picture and better understand what to select when putting our best build PC together for the game. Interestingly, it might be worth thinking about the performance of the hardware that the game was originally built on, which would have been from 2018 and shortly before. So the devs themselves may have been aiming for hardware with performance capability from this particular period.

Choosing A Graphics Card For Our 1080p Vampyr PC Build

Our key objective when putting together our next gaming PC is always going to be finding a great price point for the most performance we can. Today’s build we start by looking for the right graphics card, at the right price, that can run Vampyr at 1080p ultra graphics. Looking through todays available cards and comparing their hardware performance has lead us to cherry pick the Radeon RX 590 XFX Fatboy 8GB today for this game. It is capable of returning strong frame rates at our desired ultra 1080p. Checking our records our lowest tracked price for this card was on 16th Dec 2019 which had it priced at $179.99. Todays price is $189.99 which is why we have identified it as a competitive performance to price ratio compared to other hardware in the marketplace today. And we can see the card has dropped its price by $10 during the past two weeks.

Our ideal build will need to come with either 4GB of VRAM or more than. This is used by the computer to store image data quickly as it passes image information from GPU to CPU. Our selected Radeon RX 590 XFX Fatboy 8GB comes with 8GB of VRAM which should cover image transfer for Vampyr at this resolution.

Selecting The Right Vampyr 1080p Motherboard and CPU

Getting the motherboard selection right in this build helps us go on to choose a compatible cpu. With a good price today we find the GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 with its Socket AM4 socket enables us to select the Ryzen 5 2600X 6-Core 3.6GHz, which is priced right now at $142.99. Bottom prices recorded for this CPU was when we saw it at $119.99, which we noticed it on 28th Nov 2019.Now we have a great pairing in this rig allowing the CPU and GPU to work well together to get a solid Vampyr experience for the best price point at 1080p.

And with the motherboard costing $54.99 this really helps pull the PC we are building together. To provide a motherboard pricing benchmark the lowest recorded price we have for the GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 is $54.99 on 29th Nov 2019.

How To Choose The Best RAM For Vampyr At The Right Price

One of the most important hardware parts of this computer is the system memory or RAM. To make sure our resolution target and frame rates are met we have chosen to put in Silicon Power 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz. This is currently priced at $60.99 and is well priced compared to the system memory market today. This RAM was recorded at the lowest price of $54.99, and this was on 9th Jan 2020.

PC Performance Review at 1080p Ultra Settings on Vampyr

We reckon these hardware components in our PC build will get 85 FPS at high settings in game and you could improve the graphics up to Ultra and see a FPS of 61 at 1080p.

Other Popular Game 1080p Ultra Custom PC Builds

At some point you might want to increase your screen size from 1080p to 1440p. Vampyr running with this hardware on the larger screen resolution would return 47 FPS at Ultra graphics setting or possibly up to an average of 65 FPS on High settings.

How this build performs for other popular games

It’s worth taking into consideration how our Vampyr PC build handles other games. We’ll do this by looking at the current popular titles BeamNG.drive, Star Citizen and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Starting with BeamNG.drive we can see that at 1080p we are likely to see 67FPS on Ultra and 94FPS on High graphics settings. Alternatively we see Star Citizen likely to achieve 63FPS on Ultra and 88FPS when reduced to High. Finally with Microsoft Flight Simulator at Ultra setting we can expect 39 FPS, raising to 54 FPS on High graphics settings.

An Alternative Vampyr Graphics Card Option for 1080p

Not everyone is a fan of team AMD, so if you are after a GPU from the other side then perhaps take a look at our suggested Nvidia card, the GeForce GTX 1660 MSI Ventus XS OC 6GB. It is placed at 1% worse performance difference and certainly capable of delivering up Vampyr frames on a par with our primary GPU selection. We have also selected it based on its price today, which finds it at $209.99.
