Prices and hardware reviewed and updated: 13th Aug 2021

Our objective here is to enable us to explore what PC we could buy that can play Phoenix Point, where we carefully find the right hardware components that can run Phoenix Point and meet its gaming needs while also heavily factoring in today’s best hardware component prices. In doing this we keep in mind our need to deliver the game reliably with top tier graphics options selected, delivered via a 1080p screen resolution. These hardware items found in our build will continue to have their prices checked and components will be swapped in and out as we feel better hardware for our build is released.

First off, to help us pull together the best hardware for this build, we have to understand a little bit about the type of game we are creating this computer for. Phoenix Point is a title which sits in the , Strategy, Management, Turn-based genre categories, which may influence our peripheral selection a bit, to help accommodate some of the particular requirements there. This game would have also been built on PC hardware during 2019 and before, which can suggest the sort of specced components a developer might have been using and hoping for their game to run on. Today we find it is 1 on our most demanding games list and 1 in our list of popular games. While this extra info gives a good sense of what we want from our PC, nothing really replaces our value for money assessment based on live prices, when putting together this build.

Choosing A Graphics Card For Our 1080p Phoenix Point PC Build

Obviously one of the most important components for this build is the graphics card. We can take a look at the best price to performance hardware right now to help deliver a system that can run Phoenix Point at 1080p ultra settings. Looking through today’s graphics card prices we can see that the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB is today’s best GPU option for this computer and it will work great at this screen resolution. Its price right now is $239.99, and running our hardware tests against that price shows this to be the cheapest but best performer for Phoenix Point. We have seen this card drop its price recently by $47.68 which is part of the reason it has been slotted in to this build. Out of interest our lowest price tracked on this graphics card was on 28th Nov 2019 where we saw it for $229.99.

Our PC build has 6GB of onboard card memory to act as an image data store between the GPU and CPU. At this resolution the game will need at least 6GB of VRAM from our PC build. So with the selected GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB we have met that graphical requirement.

Selecting The Right Phoenix Point 1080p Motherboard and CPU

Finding a well priced motherboard, like the one we are putting in our build today really helps tie things together in terms of performance and opens up other hardware options that become available to us later in the selection. The GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 motherboard is at a great price point and lets us select our desired Socket AM4 cpu. As the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB wants a suitable good pairing when looking to run Phoenix Point well at this resolution. The Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core 3.6GHz is currently priced at a competitive $199.99. A low end price for this CPU would be $56.98, which we saw it priced at on 7th Jul 2020.

Looking at motherboard prices and features the competitively priced $59.99 GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 certainly takes a well-deserved place in our build. To offer motherboard pricing insight we spotted this being sold for a low price of $51.88, which was recorded at 18th Feb 2021.
