Fortnite 1080p Ultra Custom PC Build Review

Prices and hardware reviewed and updated: 23rd Jan 2021

Here we will create the best priced PC build to run Fortnite, where it will meet the demands that a game like this will put on a custom PC. Our view is to answer the question, what PC should I buy that can play Fortnite: Battle Royale really well, and for the best possible price today? With the mission objective being a high gaming standard at top end graphics settings, viewed through a 1080p monitor resolution. We visit this page every day to check on the prices and selected components we have added for this PC build. Naturally as new better hardware is found we will be adding and swapping to optimise this list with a view to giving us all a good jumping off point regarding expected build quality and pricing levels for our new Fortnite build.

Today we find Fortnite is not in our top demanding games list and currently not figuring in our more popular games lists of today. It also falls in under the Shooter, Action game genre types, which itself can influence some of our choices of hardware today, to make sure we better meet the hardware needs of the game. This sort of information will help us build a fuller picture and better understand what to select when putting our best build PC together for the game. Interestingly, it might be worth thinking about the performance of the hardware that the game was originally built on, which would have been from 2017 and shortly before. So the devs themselves may have been aiming for hardware with performance capability from this particular period. Another consideration is that this game was built on the Unreal Engine.

Choosing A Graphics Card For Our 1080p Fortnite PC Build

When selecting the right graphics card today we are specifically hunting for great price-to-performance gpus that can run Fortnite in ultra 1080p. Right now the best graphics card purchase for this game is the Radeon RX 550X 4GB, which will work really well at this screen resolution. It’s currently priced at $99.88, which puts it as one of the cheapest but best performers for this type of game. Over the last few weeks we have noticed it increase its price by $99.88, proving that additional savings can be found you will just need to shop around.

Our PC build has 4GB of onboard card memory to act as an image data store between the GPU and CPU. At this resolution the game will need at least 2GB of VRAM from our PC build. So with the selected Radeon RX 550X 4GB we have met that graphical requirement.

Selecting The Right Fortnite 1080p Motherboard and CPU

We have selected a GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 motherboard to allow us to then go on and add a great cpu for this Fortnite build. With a Socket AM4 socket type motherboard we choose the well priced Ryzen 3 3200G, which is at the best price to performance for processors in this range at the moment. Currently priced at a competitive $193.74 this cpu is a good performance addition for our build. A good reference point is, a low price for this processor was spotted on 17th Jun 2020 where we saw it for $83.59.

Chosen for price point, socket type and feature list, the GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 has a cost today of $54.99. Our motherboard price records put this mobo’s price on 25th Jun 2020 at $53.99.

How To Choose The Best RAM For Fortnite At The Right Price

One of the more significant hardware components in this Fortnite build is the RAM. We are choosing some complementary and well priced Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz. It is currently priced at $32.99. While among the best priced system memory for this build it will still provide us with the ability to reach our desired FPS for the 1080p ultra setting, that we have been focusing on with this PC. A low price point for this Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz was spotted on 2nd Feb 2020, where we saw it at $29.49.

Selecting A High Performance Mouse For Fortnite

We have opted for the Cooler Master MM710 because we feel it is a higher performance gaming mouse that will meet the needs of this title. When looking at a mouse for a game that sits in the Shooter, Action game grouping we often consider paying a little bit more to get a better suited peripheral for the task. We have still chosen the best priced mouse we could find today that meets this need.

Fortnite Benefits From a High Quality Audio Headset

Finding a headset for a game that has been identified within the following genre groups, Shooter, Action, has given us reason to improve the quality of headset we are looking at adding into this build.. The best quality headset that also comes with the best price tag is the Tritton ARK Elite 7.1, which provides some great gaming audio. You can review some of the other headsets above, in our curated headset drop down list if you are wanting cheaper or perhaps even higher quality.

An Alternative Fortnite Graphics Card Option for 1080p

As an alternative to the AMD manufactured video card we have gone for in this PC, you could also consider the similarly powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB. It has a 118% better performance difference compared to our selected Radeon RX 550X 4GB. Obviously we have chosen it as the cheapest price to performance offering in this range. It is currently priced at $239.99.
